We're thinking of spending thanksgiving in fl. with the parents and then going to disney after thanksgiving weekend for about a week. What are the pros and cons of this time?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Altho crowds during this time period have increased in the last few years, they were still manageable this year. However, the sooner after Thanksgiving the better. As a bonus, all the Parks and resorts are decorated for the season. And we really enjoy Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party....I'd say, "do it":smooth:

I used to love this time of year. I always left the day after Thanksgiving, stayed for two weeks. The pro's are the parks are not that crowded, and so pretty with the holiday decorations.

The con's are: Parks close early,

the weather has been just terrible the past three years that I have been there. Very very cold, and one year alot of rain. I had an ok time, but the cold weather just did me in. Last year at MVMCP I was like ice. So I have decided that I would now try another time of year. I pay alot of money to go there, but my gosh to be weighed down with all those winter coats, gloves, hats, etc. and freeze to death is not my idea of a nice vacation. Oh I just love Disney, but am going to try May this year. Now I am not sure what is going on with Florida and their weather. I can remember years back, that the day after Turkey day was always so nice and warm. Three years in a row I felt like I was in the anartic... brrrrr............ I did not go down this year, but read alot of post where people said again they where cold.

We were there from the 28th till the 6th, and I thought the weather was really good. It was colder at night last year. Crowds were good, MVMCP was light on the 2nd and we had no waits for most all rides. We go really early each am and are usually beat by early eve, so late hours are not that important for us.

We've gone the past 6 years the first or second week of December and loved it! We started in 1998 "just once" and it is turned into a yearly trip!

The last 2 years the weather has been a little crappy. But in 1998, 1999 & 2001 it was great - high 70's and no rain! 2000 was the worst, low 60's the whole trip. At least in 2002 & 2003 we did have some warm days but 2002 had some heavy rain.

According to Noaa weather the average temp. in Nov is 68 degrees and the 2003 Nov. was the 11 th warmest since 1895! so sounds like a pretty good time to go. in two of the 5 last years december's average was mid 50's ,the other 3 were closer to 60. course since they are averages that means some hotter, some colder individual days but your chances of getting decent weather are good

Pros - Christmas decor
Cons - it's crowded and can be cold. I don't care what the guidebooks say it is crowded.

when we have gone in the beginning of Dec (usually after the first weekend, arriving the first or second Monday in Dec) it's been pretty empty. we've never had a problem with crowds in Dec untill around the 18th( give or take a day) then look out!

We've been several times in early December. This year it was 12/6 - 12/13. The "crowds" were practically non-existant. There were a few times when we encountered long lines, but we never waited in a line that had an advertised wait time of 15 minutes or more.

Yes, the most of the parks close earlier, but we found plenty to do in the evenings. Water parks were out for us - it has to be down-right HOT before I'll spend a day at the water parks, but the kids swam at the pool daily. Christmas decorations are everywhere - resorts are especially beautiful....

BUT......I've found that vacationing between Thanksgiving and Christmas can make for a whole lot of stress if I'm not way ahead of the game on my holiday shopping! I never did get my Christmas cards done this year.....oh well! A Disney trip was higher on my priority list. Perhaps they'll be New Years cards instead......
