I say that if you can avoid having a theme, do it. I HATE themed dances and I firmly believe that I would HATE prom if it were themed.

Proms are meant to be fun, but formal, occassions. A prom that a student has been looking forward to for years should not be toyed with and ruined by a theme.

I'll say it again...I HATE themes!

If this is for a Senior Prom, I would say just go Formal in a nice ball room setting. That is what we are doing.

Well, for homecoming in my school, we're doing kind of like Miami style.
It's going to have neon colors, lights everywhere, and fun drinks.

Prom/Semis at my school :
are all themed except senior prom. that is standard formal wear, in a hall. after, everyone goes to post prom, which is themed.

Past ideas:
Mardi Gras (typical colors, masks/decorations, beads)

New York (decorations like taxis, famous NY streets, skyscrapers, etc)

Hollywood (cardboard cutouts of celebrities, wood shop made us a "hollywood" sign and added "08" to the end, lots of white x-mas lights, red carpet)

Fairy Tale (castles, princesses, we had a carriage like cinderella's last year that kids could sit in & take pictures.)

Night in Paris, France (covered the walls in black paper, LOTS of xmas lights, served mini french foods, had eiffel tower drawn on wall)

Las Vegas (red & black!, dice, glitzy decorations, wood shop made a "welcome to fabulous las vegas" sign.. you know the famous one!)

Disney (duh)

Animals/Jungle
Roaring 20s
Western
Under the Sea

This year my homecoming dance's theme is Think Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness. lol

I'm not sure what our prom theme is though. Last year it was James Bond 007

I recommend staying away from the hollywood theme, EVERY SCHOOL DOES THAT.
But if you DO do it, make sure it's done well. My prom last year had that theme and it was completely lame.

Here is a theme that I think would be really different and creative (i wanted to pitch this to the prom comittee last year but they would have non of it)
Casino Royale, :cool2:
If it's in the budget, you could design the tables like poker tables, have pretend cocktails in martini glasses (shaken, not stirred  ) all the boys will look very james bond-y in their tuxes, so i think it's a pretty cool theme. Plus, who doesn't love James Bond?!
Place cards could say Agent _____ , etc etc.

Let us know when you pick a theme! :goodvibes

uhm.... (btw, sori if these are lame...im worn out)

disney (of course!)

fun in the sun (like a beach-y type thing...flipflops, sundresses, etc)

i think a luau (hawiian) or fiesta (mexican) would be a lot of fun to have

any of the decades, 50's, 60's, 70's, or 80's

sori, thats all i can think of for now.
