Does anyone know if you have to sign up with a local chapter or are we able to find one that we can mail them too? There is not a Project Linus Chapter near us that is participating, so I am not sure what to do. Any helpful info you can offer would be wonderful! :goodvibes

Thanks!
Angie

Edited to add that I did send an email to the headquarters to ask them about it as well. I can update after I hear from them if anyone else was interested in doing this also.

I signed up with one where I could mail the blankets since there wasn't one nearby. We had to do two blankets per person. The shipping wasn't too bad, but four blankets took a fairly large box. But everything worked out just fine.

I signed up for a chapter in Oneida, NY and live in GA. It was two blankets per person if they were fleece. I just received my vouchers today!!!!

Thanks for the information! I am going to wait and see if I hear from the Project Linus headquarters this week. If not, I am going to sign up through the Oneida, NY chapter. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I would LOVE to know what they say. I live 1.5 - 2.5 hrs. between two chapters and neither of them have responded to my emails. I emailed the chapter that was collecting blankets for Haiti (was mentioned here on the DIS) and got a response that came across like I was a little bonkers for thinking that I could just make blankets and mail them into any of the chapters and that the Haiti project was not GAD related. I emailed the national headquarters expressing interest and was told to go through the Disney site for a local chapter and since I haven't recieved anything back from either chapter that they either aren't participating or have met their quota. In all of my emails I have expressed interest in doing this for GAD and then getting additional info on making blankets that I can mail in and each time I am told "go through the Disney site". :headache:

We live in Houston and I finally found a listing in San Antonio. The coordinator allowed us to mail the blankets (we sent ours today).

I'm in Houston. The San Antonio and Austin chapters are listing that they have a drop off date of Feb 20 only and will not accept mail ins. The Dallas Chapter clearly states on their info page that you can mail the blankets in. They want two 48" by 60" fleece single layer blankets. I just expressed interest today...

I have no idea if this will be helpful, but when I typed in St. Louis, MO as the search location on the Disney site, I found that it brings up only mail-in opportunities, and one of the choices is Project Linus (there are separate listings for US and Canada). I ended up pursuing a different opportunity, but it looked like it could be completed by mail after they sent you a "toolkit" (information and instruction sheet).

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I finally found a chapter, in NY, that will accept mailed blankets. My DH has Reserve duty this weekend so this will be a wonderful project for me and the kids. :)

I'll admit that I was getting a little frustrated trying to reach someone that allow us to participate and I'm still hopeful that I can eventually reach my local chapters and make blankets on a regular basis. I never would have known about Project Linus and their wonderful organization had it not been for WDW's GAD promo.

I live in SE VA and sent an email to a local chapter and they never responded. :headache:

I contacted a chapter in Morgantown, WVA that I had read about. The lady, Carole, was very nice and helpful. This is a great opportunity as our children are 7, 9, and 14 and it's tough finding any opportunities around here for the younger kids'. PL's lower age limit was 6! :cutie: Perfect for us!

I was very happy to be able to participate but she did not tell me how many we needed to do; I am glad we did 11 for the five of us though! I cut the selvge and corner squares off and put the holes in the top of the fringe; my husband cut all the fringes, and the kids' all pulled the fringes through the holes completing the blankets. We did the fleece no sew blankets. They also kept us warm while we were doing them!

We had a huge snow storm this weekend so we worked on the blankets in between snow play opportunities. I mailed the blankets yesterday! :woohoo:

Thanks for this! I finally found it in St. Louis. Now, the rest of our group has a chance to do something! :cool1:

Ditto for me! We will be doing ours this weekend (I'm currently sewing 11 for another project for Tx Children's... WHY can't they be in the GAD :rotfl:?) and I'm sending them to the SA chapter as well. I have some great Texas A&M Fleece for my boys to make 4 blankets... now just to get some for DH (hey, he might just need to sew one... he can run a machine as well!)

This is what GAD is all about! Imagine how many folks are going to start doing things for some of these organizations now that they have 'discovered' them. :cool1:

I made blankets for a local organization a long time ago. I'm happy to have found Project Linus to give me a reason to sew more once again. :)

Does anyone know if any of the Linus projects can be mailed in AND will take 36x36 size blankets. I should have noted the size before but I now have some smaller size quilts that I would like to donate.

Thanks for the heads-up on the St. Louis chapter... You just have to search for it on the GAD site, and put in your email address. Then they send you an email with the details and a link to download the PDF that explains it all and gives you the address to mail the blankets to.

FYI, it said one blanket per person.
