Professional Photographer allowed in park for family photos?

Hi there! I know Disney has strict rules about only using Disney event photography for getting professional photos in the park. I'm wondering:

1) Does Universal have professional photographers for hire to do a family photo session?

2) Can I hire an independent professional photographer to take photos? (will they be allowed in?) Not looking for special privleges or whatever.

Any special locations in either park you might recommend as good locations? I have two boys: 4 and almost 3 so I was thinking maybe Suessland or the Marvel Superhero area but open to other ideas. We are so rarely together as a whole family I thought would be a great opportunity to get this done.

I can't answer the park policy question, but there are tons of great spots for photos.

The "rock" area behind Mythos is very cool, and there are several bridges throughout IOA that would be great spots with awesome backdrops. Also along the walls with CityWalk in the background, near the entrance plaza of IOA.

Have fun, hope you can find the info and get some great pics!

As long as the photog buys a park ticket, shouldn't be a problem

That was my thought as well. How would Universal (or disney) know they are a professional hired photographer?

Maybe just have them bring in a minimal amount of gear too so its less conspicuous.

There was a post not long ago about someone being denied access to the park due to the camera gear he was carrying. Don't remember the specifics off hand.

I remember that thread too but can't remember the details.

IIRC and I may not be, the post everyone is thinking about pertained to a commercial photographer. I have seen (ok... drooled over) many camera set-ups that people have brought in for family photos, so I know a certain amount is (or was) allowed.

I wish you all the best of luck having your pictures made and will send bookoos of :wizard: dust that other park guests use their manners and stay out of your way!

Thanks all for the great suggestions! Sounds like there is no "Event photography" type service for Universal though, right? I have checked on the DIS wedding boards for photography suggestions and found a few, but wondering if any have suggestions for good photogs who can RUN with two active boys . . we won't be sitting at any of these backdrops very long so not too likely other park guests will have to worry about photobombing us!
