My sister is sailing today on the 1/8 Magic and she just called from the port. No vehicles were allowed into the port, including the cruise line busses. She said they were told there was a problem on the ship and she saw several fire trucks. After the traffic got backed up, they were allowed into a temporary parking lot. She said it appeared that the bomb squad was onboard. As of 11:30am, no one was yet allowed into the port, including security. Anyone else heard anything?

Maybe Verandah Man is refusing to get off the ship. :rolleyes1

Seriously, I hope all is okay on the ship.

oh no> Tell her to hang in there. All good things are worth waiting for and at least she can see the ship. She is cloeser than most of us.

Well, I just talked to my sister, around 11:50, and they are finally letting people check in. She says the castmembers just keep saying there was a problem. They saw a bomb squad truck, but didn't know if that was standard protocol.

I hope she keeps you updated on the situation. The web cam shows the ship and everything looks normal. Kathy

Maybe there was a threat of some sort. I'm glad they checked into the problem and are now ready for business. I hope they have a fun and safe cruise!! :boat:

When we got off the Magic from our 11/20/04 sailing there was a "problem" and stopped letting people off the ship....mostly CMs. There was a CM we met at CC that was on our flight home and he tpld us about it.....he almost missed the flight.........

Hello My Name is Steve and I have Obessive Compulsive Planning Disorder :earseek:

The rest of the world has dealt with similar situations for years, how blessed we have been in the U.S. that this is still something of a novelty. Spent a summer in the middle east 15 years ago and it was routine to show up at a bus station and find the bomb squad doing a complete sweep.

Pixie Dust for precautions only and nothing to be found.

It seems everything checked out fine. They are boarding as I type this. I guess these "problems" have occurred before. It was reassurring that they take such precautions. I want them to have a safe and fun cruise, plus my family sails in 2 1/2 weeks on the 1/27 Wonder. It's nice to know the security is that tighty on the ship! Thanks, for all of your concern.

Tammy

We spoke to DCL and they said that it was not
just with Disney but that it had to do with
Port Canaveral and other cruise lines were also
involved.

They said that it is standard procedure for all
the divisions to get involved but that the bomb
squad truck was not needed.

It is just to bad that they had to make all the
guests wait but as long as everyone is safe
and it was a false alarm of some type??????

So safe and happy sailing!!!!

We got off the Magic this morning and I can say that up until we left at 8am, everything was running smoothly. Sounds like it was just a precautionary measure.

On a side note, we were at Orlando airport at 9am and witnessed a woman cut the line that was waiting for security checks. She blew right by us all and refused to produce any ID, just flashed her boarding pass at the TSA agent. Needless to say, she didn't get very far and was soon surrounded by security staff. I don't know what people are thinking sometimes.

this happened to our family during our 1/26/03 cruise...my DH droped my and children off, and then went to park. As soon as he pulled away, the fire alarms went off, and there I was backed away from the curb with 3 children, and a husband who was not allowed back in the parking lot. All the people who had already been checked in had to evacuate...boy were they ticked off! Those who had been first in line lost their spots. Everybody had to be reprocessed by security. All in all DCL handled it well, but I can appreciate this mornings sailers. In our case, it turned out that one of the dogs had allerted its handler that it had found something, and the port was evacuated until it was cleared. Even though it was a pain, I'm glad they take the "better safe than sorry" approach.

In November there was a woman with a young boy in front of us going through the security check into the port. The kid had a KNIFE in his bag - the woman was really upset that they wouldn't let them take it on board.
UGH! Have they been on Mars for the past three years???

It wasn't me honest, I left the ship at 8:45 this morning, being very well behaved I must say!!! :)

I was visiting with Shirley at The Perfect Gift when she received a call from a fellow DIS'er asking Shirley if she knew anything about this. After a few calls, Shirley was able to find out that everything was O.K., and that the DCL Terminal was open once again.
