Pro-rating Costs

I'm considering buying into the DVC through a resale, mainly because I want to get small number of points, then build up to a higher level as funds become available.

My main question is: Does anyone know the formula that WDW uses to pro rate the costs not covered by the points? A Typical visit will be 2 adults and an occasional grandchild, no more than once a year.

Could you explain further, please? I'm not sure what you mean by 'costs not covered by points'.

If you're talking about a situation where you wish to stay for 5 nights, but only have points to cover 4 points, Disney does not pro-rate costs for additional nights. There is occasionally a member discount on cash reservations for DVC resorts.

If you are asking about the other costs of a DVC vacation (dining plan, tickets, etc.), members pay the same prices as anyone else. DVC only provides your lodging. There is currently a $100 discount on APs.

Lynne, The 4-nights- points for a 5-nights-stay is what I'm referring to. Do I figure what the cost is for 4 nights and subtract it from the cost for 5 nights? I'm sure it will all be clear when I get the planning materials, but I like to have things straight at the start. I hope to be retiring in the next few years and my income will take a hit. I would hate to have to leave my wife behind while I go to WDW!!! <VBG>

With DVC you get an allotment of points wach year to use for your stays. Villas are assign a per night points value based on size of villa and resort. If you have enough points to cover 4 nights than the 5th would be cash with a possible DVC discount. DVC doesn't take into consideration of the cash value of your points. So if you 5 night stay cost $2000 but you points a worth $1800 than you pay $200 when you check in........DVC doesn't work this way. But you can definitelty stay on a combination of points and cash points for night and then cash for another, not both for one night.

Stays for any particular night can not combine points and cash. You would reserve as many nights as possible with points, then use cash noghts to extend the reservation. DVC members, staying at DVC resorts, can often receive a 25% discount from the rack rate of the room. However, the discount is not guaranteed, and is based upon availability.
