Priorities

I have taken my family to WDW several times (Disney Institute Villas 1995, SOG 2001, All Star Sports 2002) and Disneyland after that more times than I can count.

I love Disney movies and going to the parks. Just wondering, where does Disney fall into your priorities in life? What other priorities are important to you?

For example, we went to WDW in 2002 over Easter break. While we were there, we made sure to go to Mass on Easter (at the Contemporary), but that was about the extent of our Easter observances. As time has moved on and kids have grown older, our priorities have changed more toward putting our faith first. Still love Disney and plan to go back some day, but it just isn't as high a priority as it once was...

Any comments?

Thanks!

Daniel Joseph

Hi DanielJoseph! This is a great discussion for the Community Board, so I'm moving it to that board. Please check there for further replies.

In my family, it's school first. I can't afford to miss even a day of school without having a lot of work to make up. My parents and I have had to compromise and go in the summer.

It's worth the heat, though.

For me it'snot so much the parks. It's DCL. But I'm guessing I can still reply.

I know this is going to sound pathetic but here it is...
Just about everything we do financially is geared toward getting us back on that ship. We pay off a bill so that we can go on another Disney Cruise. We decide to make our old cars last one more year so that we can take another Disney Cruise. DCL is our little slice of heaven. Sometimes I think it's what keeps us going...just knowing that we'll eventually have a Disney Cruise to look forward to again.

Pathetic? Maybe. Twisted? Proabably. But it works for us.

But OP, you originally asked about PRIORITIES...We know where our true priorities lie. We definitely don't place DCL above paying bills and putting food on the table. But let's just say that when the bills are all paid and there's a little left over, it goes in the cruise fund. When it comes to discretionary funds, DCL takes priority hands down!! :thumbsup2

We love Disney, but expensive vacations aren't our top priority. They aren't even close. Airfare is high from where we live, and because dh is a teacher, we hardly ever get any deals (well, this year we could have, but a trip wasn't in the budget at all) because we have to go during school vacations. We have no interest in going in the summer due to the heat. So Disney trips are always $$$ vacations.

We put things like retirement savings, college savings for the kids, paid off cars, home renovations, etc., way ahead of vacations.

We're trying to make it to Disney once every three or four years. It's the only vacation we really take.

Disney is low on our priority list. We haven't vacationed in DW very often but when we have, we've had a blast.

We prefer exploring other places in the US and Canada. Actually we've been to Alaska more times than we've been to Disney.

Very low.. It's a nice trip - and I love it there - but there are so many other things that are much, much more important to me.. (And right now, watching my finances very closely is one of them!! )

Our trip there in August was my first in 19 years, and the first ever for my 3 kids. (My husband got to chaperone Grad Night a few months before we all went together.) Given the economic free fall, it's going to be quite some time before these 2 teachers can scrape up that kind of cash again.

I'm so glad we went when we did. But we won't be back anytime soon. There are too many other economic priorities.

DH and I absolutely love Disney! Our world wouldn't revolve without at least our yearly trip. DH is a teacher and I am a full time student so we can only go on school holidays. When I first me DH he took me to DLR for my first trip to Disney. Since then we go every year. Disney holds a special place in our hearts. We realized that we go so much that this year we became DVC members. In 2008, we have already visited twice. I think Mickey will always hold a piece of my heart!
