Powdered Eggs? I'm appalled. I've done the Storybook Breakfast, first time in 2004, the food was deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicous. I remember we all commented on how good it was. We ate there again October 2008, it wasn't AS good, but still good and I know for sure the eggs weren't powdered. I just can't believe they can justify that price and not serve real eggs. Very sad. :sad2:

I agree...For one of Disney's most popular restaurants to change over to powdered eggs shows what they think of the guest experience. I understand Disney restaurants are a profit center...I get it, but moving the Storybook Breakfast to powdered eggs crosses a line.

Each calendar year Disney evaluates each restaurant and provides new budget numbers to the restaurants across property for the upcoming year. It's up to the restaurant manager to figure out how to spend that money on food, beverage, and the overall restaurant experience. This is why we see so many food/menu changes at Ohana. Restaurants across property can make changes based on their new budget numbers like better sausage in exchange for powedered eggs, or maybe cheese potatoes in exchange for banana bread pudding; again these are just examples.

I'm guessing (I'm not a betting man...well maybe) this was a recent change at the Storybook Breakfast, maybe it started in December or the beginning of 2011 because of the new 2011 restaurant budget numbers. Either way, it crosses a line in my opinion. So many guests go through that restaurant for breakfast on a daily basis that serving powdered eggs sends a negative message.

powered eggs....I've seen liquid eggs before.

I work a hospital system and they actually use "real" eggs. The way I know they are real is I see the eggs before they cook them but sometimes I taste (blech) the egg shells that accidently get in the scrambled eggs. Then you have to pick the rest of the eggs for shells.

Sometimes liquid eggs are better....or you order eggs over easy.

Powdered eggs are horrendous, I agree...

But I must share a story.

Keith and I usually stay at the Dolphin these days because of the wonderful nurses discount we receive there, and every morning we walk over to The Swan for the incredible breakfast buffet they serve at The Garden Grove

(Is that the latest name of the place, now ? I can never keep track... ;) )

Let me tell you, folks - this buffet is - in our humble opinion - the VERY best breakfast buffet on the property. (Technically, it's a "character breakfast". there is little interaction with the children. It's usually Goofy or Pluto doin a lap around the perimeter of the place and then disappearing faster than a stack of Micky waffles...)

Make no mistake, the food is the star here. And WHAT a variety there is ! Freshly cut fruit being sliced before your eyes, (not those dreadful hermetically sealed bowls that have become so common in the parks). Fantastic french toast and sausages (at least three kinds) and *crispy* bacon. Crispy hash browns served with or without cheese, breakfast casseroles, *Fresh* (not instant) oatmeal with a variety of toppings, bagels, lox, creme cheese... Well, you get the idea.

We've even had servers ask if we were staying at the hotel, and upon saying "Yes", have had them return with paper bags filled with yogurts and bananas and granola... "A snack for later" they say with a smile.

In short, a breakfast buffet paradise.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I happened to look up one morning and see a CM dumping a gallon sized cardboard container into a vat that was marked "powdered eggs"

:scared1:

The horror.

But you know, it didn't really matter. The spread they put out every day was so impressive that a couple of spoonfuls of powdered eggs hardly killed the breakfast buzz.

The point of this ramble ?

If The Swan can do this for about $21 a head, so can the restaurants in the parks.

Try the breakfast buffet at the Swan. Stuff yourself silly, (It's easy to do) You'll walk it off in the parks and save money on lunch.

I never fail to hear at least 6 people say that at EVERY Disney buffet, as the pile their plate to the gills for the 32nd time. (Think John Pinette "YOU HERE FOUR HOUR!!!")

Walking at a regular pace burns approx 200 - 300 calories per hour. Put that extra plate down.

(Sorry for hijacking, this thread may now continue. :))
