Princess Dresses on Park days

I know I see this all the time, but I have never let my DD5 wear a princess costume at the parks except for MNSSHP.

This year she is asking to do this and has 3 princess outfits picked out.

1 is Belle for the full day at Epcot and princess storybook dining

1 is Jasmine for BBB and MNSSHP

and the final one is Ariel for CRT and one of the MK days ( it is the extra MK day, so really we plan to be back to the resort by 3pm.

Is this practical? Can a child survive late September in a princess outfit all day? How about rides? She rides everything she can.

Should I take extra clothes ( I hate the idea of hauling a costume around all day if she changes)?

Should I just say no and not do this?

Any Advice?

We bought our granddaughters Princess dresses for lunch at the castle. They couldn't wait to put them on and they couldn't wat to take them off. All that money spent and they wore them for about two hours.

My DD5 wore her Cinderella dress on 3 different park days during our last trip which was mid-September and survived. I took a spare change of clothes along in case she wanted to change, but she never did. We didn't have any problems with her riding any of the rides. I took along a ziplock bag to stuff the dress in if she wanted to change. That would minimize the space it would take up in my backpack.

It really depends on your child's tolerance for heat. I'd let her do it, but take along a change of clothes. She might decide after just one day that she doesn't like it and won't ask again.

If she wears them all the time at home, she will probably have no problem with them in the parks. My DD went through a phase where all she wanted to wear at home was her Cinderella costume. We went to WDW during that phase (with a new dress as the old one was ragged and stained), and once she got a taste of the attention she got in the parks by wearing it, all she wanted to wear for the entire week was her Cinderella dress. She had no problems in the parks wearing the dress all day. (I got a bit tired of having her in the same clothes for pictures every day.) Once she was through that phase on our next trip she packed 3 costumes to take with her, and then decided she didn't want to wear them once she got there. She did wear a Jasmine outfit we bought while we were there for 1/2 the day on two days, but those pants are itchy so she just wore the top with a skirt that was the same color. I think you should let her bring them and wear them if she wants to, but be sure to bring enough clothes that she doesn't have to. Also, I would take at least a t-shirt and shorts with you into the park in case she changes her mind and wants to change.

I would let her wear what she wants to wear and bring an extra change of clothes. Get the 2 or 3 gallon ziploc bags - then you can squish a lot of the air out and it won't take up that much space...

My niece was almost 5 when I took her last October. She wore her dresses in the parks most days. I always brought a change of clothes with us in a ziplock bag, just in case.

I went overboard. I bought 2 Belle dresses on ebay for Princess Storybook Dinner, as well as 2 Cinderella dresses for 1900 Park Fare. They never wore them. Granted, we went in July, and it was hot---Sept may be different. Back to ebay to SELL the dresses :rotfl: we never wore!

We did BBB near the beginning of our 4 week trip and it was a battle after this to get the girls to wear anything else but their princess dresses, shoes included. They loved them. This trip we are again doing BBB on our first day but are also taking the dresses from last trip so they can alternate.

The girls love all the attention they receive while wearing the dresses. Of course let her wear them. My DD took all her princess dresses and some days wore them, some she didn't. I just always made sure we had a change of clothes with us. I also had found some pretty, sparkly flipflops at JC Penney that looked cute with the dresses and were more comfortable than her princess shoes.

My DD loves her princess dresses and has worn them in early september all day (like pp's I always pack a change of clothes) and I insist on comfortable shoes.

Another option that might work for you is to make or buy cotton princess gowns or princess inspired sundresses, that way she is dressed comfortably for the heat, but is still a "princess".

Either way, it's impossible to predict what she'll want to do once she's there. I say, it's Disney, it's a magical age (you don't know if she may be "over" princesses by the next trip. So I advise to go with it, and let her enjoy the magic, but make sure she doesn't get blisters or dehydrated.

My DD wore princess dresses s few times to PSB. Once it was hot and the other time it was cold. The time it was cold I brought along a change clothes and it wasn't hard to convince her to get out of her princess dress and into something she could get wet in.

The time we went when it was cold I put a white turtleneck under her Aurora dress. And white leggings as well. Kept her warm and she loved the attention when she wore it most of the day.

Let her wear it-they are only this young once. :goodvibes

I think it depends on your child. For 3 vacations DD would wear her dresses every day in the park. She had shorts and a tank under them so if she wanted out we could strip her down. And it stopped her from feeling scratchy. She LOVED it and never asked out of them, and she got a lot of attention from other guests and cast when wearing them. Also fun little comments related to what ever character she was. And she was singled out quite a few times for different activities because she stood out. The one day she wore her nomal clothing we noticed it was different - everyone was nice and pleasent but with out the funny little comments.
Saddly a month before our last trip DD outgrew all her dresses, we were going to buy a new one in the park but she suddenly felt she was 'too old' for princesses. It still makes me sad to think that part of her childhood is over.

DD (then 3) wore Snow White (2x) and Cinderella all day in the MK. Airel (retired style wedding dress) for 1/2 the day at Epcot because it was hot (changed after PSB lunch) and Ariel mermaid costume 1/2 day in the MK because it was too big (skirt had a hard time staying up) and we were hopping to HS. It was over Christmas/NY 08-09 so the weather was cool for the most of the days. We did bring a change of clothes in a small space saver travel bag which compressed the costume down nicely on the days DD did change. As far as shoes...we did bring "dressy" shoes for pics at meals, but she did wear her crocs while exploring the parks.
