Do most little girls wear their princess dresses just for the character meals and then take them off for the rides? My DD's are 3 and 5 and the 3yo is seriously addicted to wearing her princess dresses EVERY DAY while at home. I had planned on her only wearing them for the meals, and telling her she couldn't wear it for the rides, but now worried that she will see all the other princesses and want to wear it all day. How many dresses do you bring (we are doing CRT, Akershus, CM, and CP). Do they get stolen out of your stroller?

Another "outfit" question. While I do have some mickey shirts and some princess shirts (matching of course), there may be one or 2 days when they are in "normal" clothes. I have not been to Disney in 20+ years, and never with kids. What percentage of kids/girls are all decked out in disney boutique wear? Will my kids look out of place in their "normal" clothes? I know this is a silly thing to worry about, I was mostly just curious.

4 more days till we leave for WDW!!!pixiedust:

There are some kids who wear them all day but really with the walking and heat - its really not fun. My dd is used to wearing her princess dresses outside to play in summer LOL - we live in FL - but all day walking at Disney (and riding in the stroller) in the heat and stuff - she just can't handle it. My kids normally just wear their disney t-shirts and shorts to WDW. Most kids wear regular clothes - but you will see a bunch of princess dresses - usually the beginning of the day and the end of the day have the most princess dresses but the middle of the day people tend to take them off so you wont see so many.

On the Friday of our trip, we have a breakfast scheduled at CRT. That day, the 3 kids are going in costume (Cinderella, Peter Pan and Pirate) and, assuming they want to, will be allowed to wear their costumes all day. That will be the 1st time they will be wearing their costumes to be sure they aren't tired of it by the time we get to CRT.....

Having been to Disney World several times over the past few years, I can tell you that the majority of kids are in regular play clothes. I did notice that a huge majority of the Princesses that had been to BBB wore their finery all day long. Probably, comfortable (yet princess-like) shoes must be very important!

Princesses enjoying the parade at MK were treated appropriately like royalty by all the CMs IN the parade. I saw many, many characters bow to the little spectator princesses and blow them kisses or wave to them. It was so fantastic! Personally, if I had a little princess I would let her wear her dress as much as she wanted. I'd rather see the dress be worn OUT than still look new when it was outgrown. My own little princess is now 18...how fast the years have flown! I hope you have a wonderful, magical vacation.

My DD2 loved wearing her princess dress ALL DAY while we were at Magic Kingdom and Epcot (We ate with the princesses in Norway). We actually had to replace 2 dresses when we got home because they got pretty worn while we were there! We didn't see too many little girls dressed up at Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. We just made sure we had an extra outfit every day in case she decided to change although she never really did!

We spend a lot of time in the parks. I make my DD comfy princess and Disney clothes. She wears them all day and loves them!

It depends on your dds. Mine has worn her costume all day numerous times. . .and all day long CM's and characters treat her like a princess. Since you are going soon and not when it is really hot, they should be fine to wear them all day if you and them are comfortable with that. On chilly mornings, my dd wore a turtleneck and tights under her costume and then we removed layers as it warmed up.

My DD5 wore her dress all day long. She didnt want to take it off. she wore sleeping beauty in march of '07, she wore her cinderella dress all day and her jasmine costume all day in august of '08. This year we are going in September and will be going to the MNSSHP and she wants to be minnie mouse. She likes being dressed up.

If your girls want to wear their costumes, I would just let them. If they don't that's fine too. Most kids are just in regular clothes. My dd has never worn anything other than ordinary play clothes around the parks.

:grouphug: My daughters are way past the costume stage (16 and 13) but I would not hesitate for a second to let them wear them all day if that is what they choose to do. You can alway pack a pair of shorts and shirt in your bag for the day or stick them in a locker for the day. I would want them to have that memory for ever if that is what they wanted. I used to take my youngest daughter to speech therapy and you would never know what she was going to be when we left for "school". The teachers at the elementary school where she went still talk about "SnowWhite" and "Cinderella" coming for speech.pixiedust:

My DD3 wore her Snow White and Cinderella costumes all day (had change of clothes). She wore her Ariel-tail only through breakfast (it was a little big and she was complainin that the skirt part was falling off) and her Ariel wedding dress throught lunch at Akershus because it was just too hot! Most of her play clothes are Disnet so I think she may have worn non-Disney maybe 2 day (if that) of 9! The shoes were either her princess tennis or bright crocs with princess snap-ons....they were a beauty with the Cindy dress!

We took a new Cinderella outfit with us in our suitcase and then gave it to DD (who was just shy of 2) for the PnP party we went to. She was so excited and pleased to get it that she put it on, admired herself in the mirror and then very seriously gave DW and I each a very big hug. It was an awesome moment that I will always cherish.

We did leave the shoes and purse at home though so we didn't even have to deal with that.

If your daughter is comfortable, why not let her wear her princess outfit all day? You can always bring along a change of clothes, just in case. I wouldn't recommend leaving the costume in your stroller if she does want to change out of it, put it in a locker. Some not so nice person may see that as a great time to get a "free" costume.

Really, where else can someone run around dressed up like their favorite princess all day? I'd let her enjoy it.:)

Why not let them wear it ALL day if they want to. Our DD wore hers only one day at the parks but she wore it most of the day. She got special treatment and lots of compliments all day:) She is four soon to be five so I know her dressup days are coming to a sad end:) Our DS will be wearing his Peter Pan outfit in May as well. I think it is solo cute seeing all the little ones in costume as long as they don't look miserable or uncomfortable in them that is. Bring those extra cloths and a bag big enough to put it in when they want it off. Like another poster said someone might be in the market for a "free" costume!

The great thing about Disney World is everyone is a tourist. You can wear what ever you want, and it won't look out of place. You want to wear giant, glitter Mickey ears - go for it! Your DD wants to dress like Sleeping Beauty or even Maleficent - let her!

I just got back from a week at Disney World and a week on a Disney Cruise. One of the ports we stopped at on the cruise was Cozumel. I was wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt as I walked around shopping, and some of the locales were snickering. When you're at Disney - you can Disney-fy yourself as much as you want. It's probably the only place you can.

If they wear them every day at home, I would bet that they will want to wear them all day in the park too. My not quite 3 year old did. We don't let DD wear her Cinderella dress out of the house at home, but she is in it almost every day inside, and often all day. When we went in December, there were a lot of little girls in princesses dresses at all the parks- the most in MK and Epcot. DD wore regular clothes our 1st day at WDW, but the 2nd day we had a princess lunch so I let her wear her dress to Epcot thinking I would take it off her after lunch. No way! The minute she realized how much special attention she got from not only CMs, but the park guests too, she was hooked. She refused to wear anything else the rest of the week. I figured -why not, it's Disney. I don't even know why I packed real clothes. We only brought 2 dresses, Cinderella and Minnie. She wore the Minnie dress once, but got a tiny spot of chocolate on it and wouldn't put it on again (she doesn't like anything messy). The Cinderella dress was pretty dirty by the end of the week. I wish I had brought another dress too. Definitely leave the shoes at home. You will see lots of "princesses" with tennis shoes or other normal walking shoes.

I have 3 sons (now teens).
If I had a little girl and she had a princess dress, oh wow, I would let her wear it till as much as she wants.

We LOVE seeing princesses at WDW!

My daughter had just turned 8 when we went last year. Our first night there we went to DTD to buy Ariel's wedding dress, one that was not available at home. She didn't wear it in AK but wore it the entire time we were in MK on the first day -- especially when she went to the grotto to see Ariel. It was great -- Ariel said something about her dress right away, which really broke the ice. A little girl can get very nervous when she's meeting her idol.

Later in the week she got the Sleeping Beauty Dress at BBB. Although she didn't wear a princess dress every time we were in the parks, since they are so light and small we stuffed one in the backpack every day and kept it in the locker. During the days she wore tank top and shorts under them, at night she needed long pants and a sweater.

My daughter got the royal treatment whether she was wearing a princess dress or not -- but I would definitely let her wear it whenever she wants.

Hello, When we went last summer, my DD (age 6), had to dress like Cinderella. Before we went I purchased an inexpensive Cinderella dress in Wal-Mart toy department for about $15.
The rule is that she could not wear it everyday, but we were going to Cindy's for lunch one day at the MK and she could wear it all day.
Instead of paying lord knows how much money for the BBB, I done her hair up in braids and an updo, and she put on her little dress (I had her wear a thin cotton tank top underneath, because the top was somewhat sheer (a princess has to have her modesty). The important thing is the shoes, pretty glass slippers are nice for balls, but not walking 10 miles a day, my Cinderella went with light blue crocs.
She wore the dress on every ride they had, and even played in the spash fountain at Ariels grotto. She recived a compliment on her dress from Cinderella herself, and she was picked on at the Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor, when one of the monsters pointed her out and kept referring to her as Princess Kaylee during the entire show.
The important thing is to let them have fun and do what they want (in the scope of reason). Keep in mind that the dress may look a little worse for wear at the end of the day (we retired my DD to a memory box), but it will be worth it. I do recommend buying a thin inexpensive one at Wal-Mart or Toys R Us before you leave. The one we bought was very pretty and best of all it was thinner and shorter than the ones in BBB, so it was much more comfortable and cooler for her. We recieved lots of compliments and saved a ton of $$$.
Also about kids in Boutique wear, my kids wore play clothes other than the day Kaylee wore the Cindy dress. I really couldn't tell you if they looked out of place though, because frankly I didn't look at what other people were wearing, only at the priceless looks on my kids faces as they experienced WDW for the first time.
