Hi! I just discovered that there will be a Wee-Cycle consignment sale in my area next weekend. Has anyone been to one, or sold at one?

I have a lot of children's books I would like to sell. It says on the site that the lowest price you can mark is $2.00. You can, however, group things together in a zip lock baggie. So I could put several books in a large baggie. Any suggestions on how to do this? The majority are paperbacks, picture books. I do have some parts of series I could group together.

I really have no idea how much people would pay :confused3 My kids are big now and I'm just ready to part with some of the books, I'm keeping MANY.

Thanks!

I would just get the large zip lock bags and put in 4-5 books for the same age group. Unless it is a series than I would just put them together. Then I would mark the bag for about $3-$5 depending on the kind of books. You can get more for hard cover books over paperback.

I haven't done that consignment sale, but I have done many.

I would assume most books would sale between $.75 and $3.00. Does the consignment sale allow you to retrieve the stuff that doesn't sell? If so you could do that once or twice and you will see which things you priced wrong. I retrieved my stuff 3 times and then I had a better idea on pricing. Now I just tell them to donate whatever doesn't sell. Have fun! It's a lot of work to organize but it's neat to see all that stuff you're not using make money.

I don't personally pay more than 50 cents for a chapter book, since that's what I can buy them for at Goodwill. So I'd probably put 4 in a bag and mark them $2.00. That's just for my area, though.

Thanks everybody! I decided to put the books in a closet and try at the Fall sale. I will go this weekend and see how much others are pricing books for. I have a couple of other things that I will save back too...lego table, etc. I appreciate your advise!

I price about 25 cents per paperback chapter book. Those tend to be everywhere and easily obtainable.

Keep in mind the higher you price, the more likely your stuff will come back home to you. I told my DH I would start charging him a storage fee if he didn't agree to get some stuff moving OUT of the house lol.

Having a sense of your local market is also good. Supply and demand are huge factors in whether things will sell. Presentation also counts :) Love ziplock bags for how clean they make things look. Label everything clearly. Include batteries where necessary (just use cheap ones from the dollar store).

Good luck.

I agree with this..I usually won't go over 30 cents for a kids book.

I agree with this too. I buy paperbacks at Goodwill for 49 cents or at Savers for 69 cents (and buy 4, get 1 free...which comes out to 44 cents per book IIRC).

Good luck with your sale in the fall. I typically donate anything we are done with or pass on to friends or family. Our neighborhood is having a community sale in a couple of months though and I am considering participating. I need to make some DIsney money!!
