Prices going UP - rental cars

ABC News did a feature tonight on bargain prices for air and hotels for late summer and fall... but went out of their way to mention that car rental costs are staying high as they have all reduced inventory.

I saw the same news. Airlines more or less giving seats away and car rental is up 75%.
I keep checking my Dec. rental and at least got it under 200. for 5 days. I'll keep trying to get it lower, but I'll take it. Just had rental for 5 days to/from Ft. Lauderdale and it was 253.00.

Went with Dollar for 10 day rental of a full size car. Total with all fees and taxes $278 :thumbsup2

That's a great rate! But ... the rate really depends on your dates. My dates are over Christmas and New Years :scared1:. I'm sitting at $390 for a Compact for 15 days.

I booked my rental with Dollar in early June for our land/sea travel on July 15th and today, I checked our reservation and contemplated to change our pick-up time when I noticed that they increased the one-way drop off fee from $15 to $45!!! Needless to say, I didn't revise my reservation.

So, I'm glad I was able to book the rate that I got when I did. I'm just hoping that I will not run into any troubles when we get there.

Wow, glad you posted. I have the opposite problem. I booked a $19.00 a day rate (9/3-9/7) but with a pick up at MCO and drop off at Tampa. Now that we have decided not to fly out of Tampa, and will return the car to MCO, Dollar wants to increase our rate to $29.00 a day. Doesn't make any sense since we didn't change the dates, only the return location. You would think it would be cheaper for them to have us return the car to MCO. Hoping rates will drop and I can get a new reservation or amend my current one. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

:scared1:
Just started looking for rental at Tampa Airport for Oct 30 one week!!! These weekly prices are UNREAL! Then I checked the National specials (thanks teedisney!) for next week & they don't even offer TPA!!! I'm getting worried...NO WAY can we do $350 for a car!!! HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP !!!

Glad I booked Enterprise a few days ago. We got an 8 day rental of an economy car for $167. Just checked the rates and it has jumped to $284.

OK...followed some of these great tips. Tried several things. Found a 40% discount code on Avis itself. Then applied a Mousesavers cpn code for 1 free day. Took an Intermediate for $193 (8 days) but hopefully they'll apply the cpn properly as promised & we'll save an additional day off! Of course, with the fees/taxes, that adds another $60 to total rental. But still better than $350 for a sub-compact!

Glad you made out well, Luv2Diz!

Gotta love the pixiedust around this place!:wizard:
Thanks, everyone!:flower3:
