I have never used priceline and probably wouldn't on a hotel, but since you can pick the size of car, I figure what's the down side to bidding on a car rental? We are flying into Long Beach on 12-2 and leaving 12-7. The cheapest rates I can find for a full sized car about about 150.
So any dangers in trying to bid on a car? Any hints on how much to offer?

I used priceline to rent our SUV from LAX. It worked out great, and it was Budget who ended up being our company. If you have time, start extremely low, and bid once a day, adding $1 per day until you get your car.

So you're rate of $150 for 5 days - does that include taxes etc.? On priceline, you bid per day. I would start maybe around $10 per day.

Also, be sure to look into what your own car insurance does for rentals. They tried to talk us into insurance, which would have been more per day then the rental itself. They scare the heck out of you - so be prepared.

I usually look at hotwire first find the lowest priced car then go to that website and book directly. That way you dont hva to pay

we used priceline for our rental car for Dec. 4-12 and are paying $13 a day. We also did this last year for our DL trip and when we were picking up the rental car they upgraded us to the nice car.... So hoping for the same again!

Do be sure to take a look at hotwire.com too, even if you don’t use them it gives you a good idea of where to start bidding on priceline. The last time we went to Disneyland my bids at priceline were not getting accepted, and we ended up getting a car through hotwire below what I was bidding priceline.

I just booked a car with hotwire based on what you said here. I have always been afraid to use it.

I have used PL twice to rent cars. First time we were upgraded second time we weren't. This last time I used Hotwire because they were offering a better deal than my rejected price on priceline. I would use Hotwire to see what deal they offer than go to PL. If you can't beat the offer Hotwire provides with PL bidding, than go with Hotwire.

this is exactly what i do too

I got us a minivan on priceline (at LGB) for $25/day. It was no problem at all and worked out really really well. I think I'll be doing all our rentals on priceline in the future!

I got a mid sized car from priceline for 20.00 a day. Cheaper than the reservations I had thru AAA. I booked at LGB and I think since its smaller the deals are not as good as other airports. I did save money though so Im happy. The rates at LAX and SNA were cheaper but I wont be at those airports. I save my money on airfare so I guess im paying more for a car. :cool1:
