Love the Name Your Own Price on Priceline.

So we're planning a short getaway to Rochester of all places (Museum of Play is great!). Just something to do over the long weekend.

In any event, The Hyatt (four star) is noted as being $141 a night on most sites. Bid $70 with the Name Your Own Price feature and got it. Makes me wonder if I should have bid $60...:rotfl:

There were only two 4-star hotels in Rochester and the other one was $250 a night, so I didn't really care which one we got. I guess it would matter for categories with many more hotel choices as you'd be stuck with whatever hotel accepted your bid... But I'm quite happy with paying $70 a night for a nice hotel! Should have done this with our summer trip last year when we were roaming NY and PA...

I had a fantastic experience with them too! On our WDW land/sea trip a few weeks ago, we scored the Sheraton by MCO for $69, taxes in... and scored a mid-sized car rental through Hertz for 8 days for $160! I don't think I'll ever pay full price for a non-Disney hotel again.

I've done similar things with Priceline ... In Halifax I managed to get the 4 star Marriott on the Harbour for $55 .... and the Westin for $60

Here's is some other wins I've had:

Best Western Quebec City $40 (2009) $60 (2010)
Marriott Orlando Airport $60 (2012)
Howard Johnson Hotel Portland South $35 (2011) $35 (2012)
Fairfield Inn Portsmouth Seacoast $40 (2011)
Aloft Phoenix Airport $45 (2011)
Renaissance Providence Hotel $50 (2009) $60 (2011)
Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North $50 (2011)
Sheraton on the Falls $80 (2009)

The only risk is getting one king sized bed rather than 2 doubles ... this has only happened to me once ... and was solved with $20. I've booked over 40 nights in Priceline Hotels.

I also have booked last minute flights for 4 from BOS to DFW (return) with AA for a steal. $200 per person return taxes etc included.

Have fun! We love the Museum of Play. We were last there at the end of March when they had a Star Wars weekend. It was a zoo, but the boys had a great time. We're hoping to go back over the summer and maybe take in a AAA baseball game at the same time.

We usually stay at one of the suite hotels (Homewood Suites is our favourite) so that we have kitchen facilities. We typically pay around $120 a night for that. Might try Priceline next time because I doubt we save more than $50 by having the kitchen. Let me know what you think of the Hyatt.

Oh my gosh, if only this happened a week ago! I just booked myself a 3star hotel in NYC for 161 a night...Maybe I could've done much better on priceline

I love Priceline and Hotwire is extremely good too! July 2009, we stayed at Pop for 2 weeks but before that we stayed at the Best Western Lakeside for $25 a night for 2 weeks. It's about 1 mile from the WDW main gates and was a fantastic place to stay. No 4-star obviously, but we were at WDW all day anyway! The room was quiet, clean and right next to a million restaurants, gift shops and a Walgreens! $175 a week is amazingly good for a good place to stay when you don't stay on site! (not that we ever don't want to stay on-site, but we were at WDW for a whole month! WDW hotels get expensive when you're talking monthly rates! :lmao: )

We also have had some great hotel stays via priceline. The only thing to be aware of is that priceline only guarantees a king size bed. You have to call hotel after your bid is accepted and ask for 2 full/queen beds. Last year, we were in San Antonio, Tx and got a hotel room with only one bed. Requested 2 beds and was told we would have to pay rack rate to get 2 beds since we had used priceline. Our room included a sofa bed, and that's what the kids ended up sleeping on. Needless to say, they were not too happy with me.:rolleyes1

Have also had some great car rental deals with Priceline.

Actually, they only guarantee accommodations for 2 adults .... in some isolated cases this could be one double bed .... Ouch!

I am so glad to see this OP. We too LOVE the Museum of Play and have promised DS we'd take him again one day this summer. If I can book a hotel like you did on Priceline, I might as well make an overnight trip out of it and not have to drive 6 hours in one day. Thanks for posting!:goodvibes
