I have never used Priceline and needed some basics. We are planning a quick trip at the end of this month. I just want to make sure that we don't end up in a rat hole!!

Thanks

Hi Minnie!

Your best bet is to visit www.biddingfortravel.com and read the website thoroughly, particularly the FAQ and Bidding Help forums. They are really tough on newbies there if you don't take the time to read up on all of that first, but once you have, they can be very helpful. :)

Good luck!

I'm not a fan of Priceline for one big reason -- you can't choose your hotel, airline OR flight times. Sure, you may end up with a really low price, but you never know what you're getting until after you've paid for it. Hotwire is much the same, except that you can choose the hotel, but airlines and flight times remain a mystery until after you buy.

Better sites to try: expedia.com, cheaptickets.com, orbitz.com, cheapseats.com, bestfares.com. Good luck!

I have had very good luck with Priceline hotels. I would never purchase airline tickets on Priceline though.

I read through all the information in BFT and look to see what hotels are coming up for my dates. I then check out the reviews on that site and on tripadvisor.com. It is not a gaurantee that I will get that hotel, but I make certain that I would be happy with any hotel in the star level I choose. The majority of hotels are listed on the BFT site as well.

I agree completely with the above poster. I have never used Priceline for air tickets as I am picky about my times and layovers and aircraft. However, I use them constantly for hotels and couldn't imagine paying rack or even partially discounted hotel rates from discount sites after using Priceline. I have stayed everywhere from San Fran to New York city, Boston, Anaheim, bidding on 3 stars and have had beautiful rooms in Marriotts, Sheratons, Hyatts etc. With the help and information on Biddingfortravel (an invaluable site) I have always been extremely happy with my dirt cheap accomodations. I've always been accomodated on getting 2 beds in a room also, although I understand that can be risky business.
