DH had an EMG of his wrists (took 10 minutes tops). He will be having carpal tunnel surgery in a few weeks. I can't even begin to imagine how much the surgery bill will be since the EMG cost $1425! Our portion is $600. The test was mandatory. Without it, our insurance won't pay for the surgery. Am I the only one that thinks that medical procedure prices are getting way out of hand?

The costs are high, but so is the price of the equipment, insurance, rent etc. The EMG is how they definitely diagnose CTS.

Where did you have it done? That seems high.

I had an EMG and nerve conduction study done last year on my legs and arms and it only cost $1400. And this was at a hospital in the LA/Wetside area where everything seems to be more expensive.

I agree that it is expensive, but that cost for just that seems high to me.

But yeah, in general, the costs are outrageous. I have a liver biopsy, an endoscopy and a colonoscopy coming up all wihtin the next 2 months. I'm afraid to see those bills.

I had an EMG done earlier this year and my portion of the bill was $600, as well. I about fell over and died when I saw how much money I owed! :scared1:

I don't have carpal tunnel, still working to figure out what is going on! I hope your DH will be feeling better soon. :)

Yikes so very glad we dont have to pay those prices as my mom just had surgery on one hand and going for the other hand in September and there is no way they would pay those prices........

Good luck with your surgery, hope you get wonderful results

Well that really stinks. At least DH got answers for his $600. You had to pay it and still don't know what's wrong. I hope you find out soon and it doesn't cost too much by the time you find out. I am amazed at the cost of medical procedures nowadays.

A Google search indicates $2,000 is the average cost.

No question, medical costs are nuts. I went in for a blood pressure check with my Primary Care Physician, I paid my $25, they billed my insurance $625.:scared1:
The doctor was with me for less than 5 minutes, took my blood pressure, checked my pulse, asked if I was having any issues with my medicines, and said great, see you back in 6 months.:sad2:
