Thanks for the info. That definitely helps me make up my mind to cancel the Illuminations cruise ressies I have for our March trip. We joined another DIS family for this cruise on our XMAS trip, and were disappointed with the view (but still grateful to the other family for inviting us along to see how it was). We usually have no problem staking out an excellent viewing spot 1-2 hours early in the park and feel we have much better viewing options from within the park. We felt pretty far removed sitting under the bridge on the Illuminations cruise. I don't think I've seen any other negative comments here regarding this cruise, so perhaps my expectations were just too high, but it was definitely not worth it to me.
For me, the only way I'd do the Illuinations cruise is if I had a large group of 10-12 people or if I was going to do the cruise on a day where I wasn't otherwise going to a park so I could save a day on a hopper pass. As we have AP's, the second reason doesn't apply.
I'll post my 2 cruise cancellations on the March thread when I cancel them so that someone else here has a chance to pick them up.
