My 12 yo DD wants to start watching this show during the summer. It seems that it just started and it's all the talk in her school.

Did anyone see it & how was it?

I watched it & I liked it, but I am in my thirties. lol. :goodvibes I used to love the show "Privileged" with Lucy Hale, so sad that show never came back!

I watch it I am 21. It's pretty good, but it might be a little heavy for a 12 year old depending on what you allow your daughter to watch. It's about a group of friends and one of the girls goes "missing." Nobody knows what happened to the girl. A year later the friends end up getting letter about secrets they have (one girl made out with a teacher, one girl shoplifted, one girl has feelings for her sister's boyfriend, and one girl has a crush on one of her girlfriends.) The letters were signed from A.(as in the girl who died) The girl's body ends up being found so they are trying to figure out who these letters are from.

To me it kind of reminded me of a teenage version of desperate housewives. I say watch tonights episode with her. It's a really good show, but I can see why some parents might have a problem with their children watching it.

I am 35 and watching it, LOL! I enjoyed the first show last week and I believe the first episode is on right now (1/2 way over with) and the new episode will follow.

spoiler alert

one also shop lifts and her mother sleeps with the police man to get her out of it.

one smokes pot

there seems to be a lesbian relationship developing

the father was having a affair and teenage daughter is helping to cover it up.

and that is from the first episode

DD13 watched it last week and I was busy doing paperwork in another room. When I came in, I saw things that disturbed me and watched the last five minutes with her. We discussed that I wasn't sure it was appropriate but she argued that it was and I hadn't seen the whole episode, blah, blah, blah. Wish I had seen this post earlier when she said something about getting all her homework done before the show started. It looks like I'll be watching it with her tonight to make the decision whether its appropriate or not.

Given this post, I'm saying probably not, most likely it'll end up getting shut down before the hour is over:laughing:

BTW, my girls are 13 and 14 and watch it. The show is based on a best-selling teen book series, geared toward teens.

The PP beat me to it, but it is based on a series of books. I have not read any of the books and I have no idea how faithful to the books the series will be, but you could check out the books (they are summarized on Wikipedia) and decide if the show is appropriate for your daughter.

I tivo'd it last week and just finally watched it today, I love stuff like this and I'm pushing 40.

Anyways, yeah it has an element to it that may seem salacious, but it's not over the top like Gossip Girl(for a kid that is). Most of what goes on in the show is implied not shown(the actions listed by the other poster).

My 13 yr old likes stuff like Life Unexpected and Vampire Diaries and they definitely have their moments, but those moments have led to some really good eye-opening converstations between the two of us.

When I was 12 I was pretty darn smart regarding sex, drugs etc, I knew what was what. I had the reading comprehension of a freshman in college and frequently sought out books that were mature in nature. But I also loved shows/books that were geared to my age. Twelve yr olds aren't stupid that's for sure, they know what's up and out there and a lot of it may not even disturb your daughter. Especially if she's a rather mature 12 yr old.

She might just find herself intrigued in the mystery the whole show is centered on and not pay too much attention to the rest. And from what I've read on some boards regarding the series itself, I don't think the pot stuff and parent cheating stuff comes up anymore. Except maybe in discussion as having ocurred.

Watch it with her tonight and see what you think. I honestly have little issues with teen shows in regard to sex, I'm more inclined to censor with violence, since sex to me isn't that huge of a deal.

Well, we just finished watching it and it is a little risky for her age group IMHO. The one girl who tried to break it off with her teacher is now "with" him again but the other scenarios were cleaned up a bit more this week I think. I like that the Dad talked with daughter about his side relationship but the blond seems pretty promiscuous....

All I keep saying to DD was "how old are these girls? are you sure they aren't seniors?" She assured me the group of girls was 16 and I continued to tell her I thought they acted at the very least, 17 or 18;) I'm not sure she'll want me to watch with her again next week, lots of eye rolling going on:laughing: I do think I'll let her watch it again (with me) next week and we'll see how that goes.

Thanks everyone. I watched it with her tonight and yep, it had some moments but we discussed them. The teacher/student thing is what is a bit disturbing to me and boy, was that ever discussed.

She's a very mature 12 yo - a friend of mine is always joking that sometimes she forgets that she's not 25.

I actually liked it! I hadn't seen Chad Lowe in a show in a long time, I've always liked him. And does anyone know what show the Mom of the lesbian character played in - she looks familiar

So I'm guessing that it's the Jenna character that is sending the text.....

I have watched it two weeks now with my 14 year old dd, I like it, but might not let her watch anymore. I know she will be made, oh well. It is more grown up than I thought, I was guessing it was more like vampire diaries.
