My family is taking its first DL trip this summer. We will be staying at DLH for a 3 night weekend stay. My DD collects pressed pennies. When I was planning which hotel to stay at I watched a walk-thru of the DLH and it appears that there is a pressed penny machine in Fantasia Gift Store but the video was not close enough for me to study the type of machine. My questions are as follows for my fellow DIS Board colleagues:

What type of currency / payment does the pressed penny machines take at DL in general? I.e. do we need coins, dollar bills or credit cards?

Also, do we need to supply our own pennies? I know some more modern machines provide the penny for the purchase.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

You need quarters. Usually $0.50 plus the coin you are pressing. In 2015, I did EVERY single press at both parks and all 3 hotels. I took pre-1981 pennies, and for the nickel/dime/quarter presses, silver coins. No bimetal or zinc junk for me.

There's a handful of coin-pay machines, but almost all switched to dollar bills or cards in the later part of 2021.

Here's the link to the most recent list from the Park Pennies site. If it says "vended" then it's bill/card pay machine. (Even if it's spinning, the link should still work.)

I belong to a Christmas card exchange on a Facebook group, and wanted to send a pressed penny from my trip in each card. Just not the same swiping my debit card to get the pennies :(

It is now $1 for the new penny machines according to that, but still 50 cents for the legacy machines. What a money-grab.

Right??? I said the same thing. I mean, it’s only a $1 but it’s the principle 😆. My son was also sad that he can’t press his own penny he brought now at the newer machines.

Thank you so much for this link. Perfection!

I'm a grown woman and I'm sad I can't press my own pennies as well! I had a whole collection of pennies, quarters, nickels and dimes for it!

This is so sad…another tradition gone. That used to be part of our ritual, too…going through the change jar to find all the copper pennies, shining them up for the pressed penny machines.

So sad.:worship:

At a minimum they should be required to spit out a PURE copper blank post-press. Loading them up with copper-coated zinc garbage is HORRIBLE

We were disappointed to see all the credit card machines and we couldn't even put in our own penny. My son says it's just not the same, and he didn't want to spend any of his money on the new machines. He used to love collecting the pennies, and still likes finding the old school machines in other places, but we both agree the new machines aren't worth the cost. It was about the experience plus the penny, not just getting a cheap souvenir.

They are using current pennies so you get the ugly zinc smears? Yuck! I agree they should use a nice copper slug like the Tokyo Disneyland "medallion" presses.

I'll have to find some older presses to use up the rolls of uncirculated 1970s pennies I bought.
