President's Physical Fitness Award

Proud mommy moment here!

My son won the President's Award for Physical Fitness for his gym performance this school year. Way to go, honey!

I'm so thrilled for him. He got a embroidered patch with the Presidential seal on it, and a certificate signed by G.W. Bush himself.

As a former gym spazz, it's so exciting to have an athletic kid.

He got another award from his school for being a "Good Citizen." He earned that by "being consistently respectful and considerate of his classmates and their property."

I'm pleased as punch about that, but the President's award is especially gratifying. To get it, you have to adhere to national standards. And he did!

I just found my son's certificate and patch when I was cleaning out his backpack today. School was out two weeks ago.

I tried and tried to get one of those Presidential Physicial Fitness patches when I was in school. I did pretty well, until the flexed arm hang (the girls' equivalent of chin-ups) -- I bombed really bad on that.

DH, always the jock, even in middle school, also got one, and was so proud and pleased. He asked his mother to sew the patch on his jacket. When he wore it to school the next day, some older bullies saw it and teased him and made fun of it so badly that he ripped the patch off and threw it away . . .

I always felt bad for DH about that . . .
