Prescription swim goggles

Has anyone ever purchased prescription swim goggles? My optometrist offers these and they order these through McCray Optical Supply (called Mosi). $80 for custom prescription, no returns. Because I have a stigmatism they are suggesting this method rather than purchasing a ready-made goggle closest to my prescription.

I googled and found other optometric centres offering these but could not find any reviews.

Anyone have experience with prescription swim goggles?

I do have a pair, but I got it from my mom, who after cataract surgery no longer requires them. It's a lower prescription than what I require (I'm pretty blind, also with an astigmatism) so it's good but not great, so I typically use my contacts + regular goggles. Or just goggles and no contacts. So from that perspective the custom goggles seem more practical.

My friend who has two daughters that are competitive swimmers orders hers from swimoutlet.com for a fraction of the price. We are close to border so we have shipped to an outlet there. Not sure what shipping to Canada costs but check them out. I used to get all my daughter's competition suits through there too.

We get ours from there too, but OP has vision issues that won't work with premade corrective lenses...my son is easy because both eyes are -4.00 and he has no astigmatism, so we buy the $15 TYR Rx goggles.

OP, $80 is CHEAP for a custom pair of Rx goggles. I'd just get them at your optometrist's office.

My daughter wears prescription goggles. We usually purchase them from the vision centre at our local Walmart since a family friend is the optician there. We've only purchased her 2 pairs over the past 10 years, but I'm thinking that the latest pair was only about $50-$60.

The problem that we run into is that the goggles only correct for about 1/2 of her vision issues because they don't make goggles with a strong enough prescription for her. She is extremely far sighted (to the point that she would be legally blind without her glasses). Even her glasses don't bring her vision up to 20/20. They're better than nothing, but not perfect. I will have to look into the Mosi ones. Maybe they can be made to work with her prescription, but probably not. She has a very unusual prescription.

I have astigmatism and I just got the premade ones closest to my prescription. They aren’t perfect but better than nothing and didn’t want to spend too much. I figured my sunglasses don’t correct for astigmatism so it wasn’t much different.

My question is what do you need to see while swimming? I wore the speedo ready made ones the whole time I swam competitively as a kid. Just put my actual glasses back on when I got out of the pool. I kept them in the case in my shoe. Buying custom googles wasn't even an option and I used regular goggle before finding the speedo ones. I had laser eye surgery 4 years ago, BEST THING EVER!!! Now I just wear regular goggles.

Yes but you don't need the detail you do when not in the water. You need to see the black lane divider that is like 12" wide, not reading street signs. Having a pair of the Speedo optical googles is fine, I was -6.75 in one eye and -5.25 in the other eye, my optometrist said the Speedo optical goggles were great. I could see my hand just fine, I needed them to read the pace clock during practice. Staying in your lane should be fine even with regular goggles unless you miss the 12" wide black line tiled in the bottom of the pool. You are not straining you eyes to read detail while swimming is my point. I know I did it for 12 years.

I know for me...I would LOVE to be able to see clearly while swimming or snorkeling. Next hot vacation I take...I will be finding a pair on prescription goggles. I don't wear contacts...and my eye sight is very poor. I don't want to miss out on seeing the awesome underwater scenery
