Prepaid iPhone4 / Virgin Mobile

We've owned 3 ipods and 3 iphones, as well as non-Apple electronics. ipods and iphones have been very unreliable, usually having issues at around 13-15 months (just after warranty expires). We are very careful with our electronics and have otterboxes, etc. Anyways, I would put the lifespan of the Apple products at around 1 to 1.25 years. So, whenever you make your calculations, keep that in mind. I would not pay $600 out of pocket for a phone that will likely have to be replaced in a little over a year. We've had iphones but we basically get substantial corporate discount that makes the reduced 2-year contracts worthwhile. Look into the reliability of other phones.

I'm sorry to hear that. Our experience has been the opposite. My 14yo's iPhone is the first Apple product we've had a problem with. It's almost 2 years old. At the moment the voice part only works on speaker phone. I also have an iPhone 4, husband has an iPhone 4S, and there are 2 nano's (3rd gen), 3 shuffles and some Mac books in the house. No problems with any if the other devices, so we're quite happy with the track record. We're adding 2 iTouches to that at christmas. Prior to the iPhones every single phone we had - regardless if brand barely lasted half of the contract. I take that back, I don't recall having any problems with the RZRs back in the day. Lol

I always flip through these prepaid conversations. I know eventually- probably middle school- my current 3rd graders may want/need a phone. Based on their personalities now, I think prepaid would work

When I upgraded I kept my same rate. When you get the new phone go online and under her account swap the phone, that way you keep the rate and her number.

This is not totally accurate. Only certain phones will allow you to keep the $25/mo grandfathered rate. And yes you must use a VM phone in order to use their service. Please read this for more info
