Much as I love football, trust me just forget about it whilst you are there. You are meant to be on holiday.

Kevin,
Forget football, shame on you
It's bad enough giving my season ticket to relatives for three weeks, but to just forget about it, IMPOSSIBLE.

After what happened to Marc-Vivien Foe tonight proves my point. It's only a game.

Being at the Hillsborough tragedy forcibly reminded me of that.

All I'm saying is just spend 2 weeks giving your family your undivided attention, Marc-Vivien Foe's wife and children were there tonight, I'm sure they'd see my point of view.

When I'm on holiday I don't want to know anything about home for 2 weeks.

Kev.

During my holiday in Florida my team play Preston,Rotheram and Sheffield Utd do you think they will show any of those what should be classic matches, who needs Man u, Arsenal,Liverpool. .

Cricketers Arms is the best place - they don't open at 7 a.m. though for the early match - the game is recorded and played after the 10/11 a.m. (3/4 p.m.) match depending on whether it is a Saturday or Sunday.

We always watch Chelsea play in Orlando if they are being shown, the place has always been full when we've been there, great atmosphere and a good laugh with fellow supporters.

If you're not a dedicated fan you wouldn't understand that you MUST see your team wherever you are in the world!

Kevin,
What happenned to Marc Vivien Foe yesterday was without doubt tragic to say the least. I too was at Hillsborough, in the lower Leppings Lane, however I really dont see your point. Because we are on holiday, we dont have to turn into different people all of a sudden. My wife and kids love to watch the game as much as I do, however if they didn't they would quite understand if I was to go off on my own for a couple of hours to watch something I love at home, and vice versa.
I go on a golfing holiday every April are you then saying that when I am in Spain I should forget about the wife.
I do give my family my undivided attention whilst I am away on holiday for 3 weeks - as I do for the other 49.

There was no insult intended whatsoever my friend. I was just putting my point of view across. All I am saying is - a holiday to me is about getting away from it all isn't it ?

If you're not a dedicated fan you wouldn't understand that you MUST see your team wherever you are in the world!

I have been a season ticket holder for 20 years and have been everywhere following my team, so trust me I do understand. It just seems strange to me that you'd want to travel thousands of miles, spend thousands, then the first chance you get you find a pub and watch football. Remember this is only my opinion and not an attack on anyone.:)

I agree with Kevin Harrison, I like my football, I also like watch Rugby Union as well. But when I go to Florida on holiday the last thing I think about is what is happening back in the UK. I do not even look at an English paper. Plus I think the so called English pubs down the 192 make that stretch of road look like something tacky from Spain. I work hard for my holidays in Orlando and the last thing I want to even think about is anything that is happening back home.

Kevin,
There was no offense take and apologies for giving the impression there may have been.

I m in complete agreement with the quotation posted.

I have personally travelled all over the world with LFC and needless to say I will travel to new places in the future. It is in my blood.

However,I do know a guy who has just booked a flight back from Majorca on the 29th August in order to see the Derby game, whilst leaving his wife and 2 young children to spend 3 days on their own. Now that is unacceptableand his wife doesn't know yet.

By the way, have a goodun in 72 days

Everytime we've walked past the Cricketers Arms it is heaving with noisy larger louts - not a pleasant sight - ashamed to see the Brits acting like they do in the Med.

Holly

IMO it would be silly for anyone to take offence about anything written on these boards, they are meant to reflect people's personal views and as we all know they differ considerably, it's all part of life's rich pattern.

Holly - when you've passed by the Cricketers Arms it couldn't have been Chelsea playing because our fans don't act like that!
In all the years that we've been going to Florida I have never seen anyone drunk or disorderly in the Cricketers (only been about 3 times though because some years Chelsea were not being shown while we were there) it's been a bit noisy though sometimes but that is part of the atmosphere.

I do agree that the English pubs on the 192 are tacky looking but that goes for most of that road. And yes, the unsavoury Brit element is creeping into Orlando which is why we avoid places like Dennys, Perkins, Ponderosa etc.

Signing off by wishing that everyone's team does well next season (apart from against Chelsea of course)!!!!

Floridalol, I agree with your comments entirely. The unsavoury element are obviously starting to infiltrate the land of the Mouse. I too like my football and can be as vocal as anyone watching a game but when people go on holiday why do they have to wear their overpriced football shirts (and shorts most of the time). Kids far enough because they do not know any different but what do grown men (and women sometimes) need to parade round in silly football shirts - obviously to get plastered in the Cricketers!!
Also if you do not use Perkins etc where would recommend to eat to avoid the 'element' and talk to local people?

A server told us once that they can spot Brits from a mile off because many dress in football shirts, we are very pale and always seem to have a carrier bag !!

We were originally staying in The Holiday Inn, but was told that it's the most popular hotel for Brits, so we decided to give it a miss. Sounds snobby maybe but we spend 50 weeks a year putting up with the British pastime of getting drunk and being noisy and don't want my holiday spoiling because of it.

John - We eat at places like Charley's Steak House, Fulton's Crab House and Olive Garden. Had the unfortunate experience of going to Perkins on I-Drive last November, we were just after a Club Sandwich in the evening as we had had a big lunch at Winter Park, and against our better judgement chose Perkins, there was a large group of Brits being extremely noisy and vulgar and on the next table to us was an American family where the father thought it was hilarious to expel wind loudly. The food was so bad we couldn't eat it so after complaining they cancelled the check and we had a burger at Bennigan's up the road which was very good.

Kevin - we've stayed twice at Holiday Inn I-Drive and have found it to be very good. There is a Holiday Inn Express close by which apparently is not so good and attracts undesirables but that is only what I have been told so cannot vouch for this personally. Friends have said that both QI's on I-Drive have gone downhill in the last few years and have had problems which is a shame because the one on Sand Lake was the first hotel we stayed at in Florida way back in 1987.

John - I find adults wearing football shirts pretty silly too although I do confess to having a couple of casual shirts with a small CFC motif on!

I still maintain that the Cricketers is OK though - it is a football pub and is meant to be noisy and those who go in there should expect it, what I do object to though is bad manners in other places such as Perkins where people should respect other people and behave as civilised human beings.

Just because you like to wear a football shirt on holiday does not make you silly, a thug or an alcholoic.

Each to their own I say.

I agree with you Robbie, It is quite amazing that a simple QUESTION like the title of this thread leads to some "experts" giving a lecture on family values.
It is a fact that whilst on this forum we all have one thing in common i.e. Disney thrre will be many wide and varied things that we all like and dislike in addition.
I am astonished that people who have contributed to this thread thought not to answer the question with either a location and or a recommendation but preferd to inform me that i should, forget about football (which my whole party enjoys!), not wear a soccer shirt etc etc.
Please answer the question with a simple answer, a recommendation or go and find another question to answer and keep your families values to yourself or somebody who wants to listen.
Remember that two weeks in Orlando does not make you an American! - Football is part of our culture and a source of enjoyment for millions.
If i was an American wisiting England and wanted to ask "Where can i watch Baseball" on TV would you give me the same answer?
