GALVESTON A pregnant woman who was having pregnancy issues was air lifted from the Disney Magic early Saturday, officials with the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The cruise ship that set sail from Galveston was about 180 miles into the Gulf of Mexico when the ships captain called for help at about 9:15 p.m.
The captain told the Coast Guard that the 31-year-old woman was having pregnancy issues and needed to be air lifted off the ship.
The Coast Guard sent an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Ellington Field that was supported by a HU-25 Guardian jet that came from Corpus Christi.
Rescue crews arrived at the ship at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday. The woman was hoisted aboard the chopper and taken to the University of Texas Medical Branchs John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.
The health condition of the unidentified woman and her unborn child were unknown Saturday.
Disney officials said they have a policy that any passenger who is more than 24 weeks pregnant is not allowed to sail.
