Pregnancy Gender Reveal at WDW

My wife is pregnant and we should be finding out the gender of the baby about two or three days before we head to WDW for our vacation.

We wanted to do something neat to reveal the gender while there. The hospital will place the gender in an envelope that we are not planning on opening so that it can be a surprise for us.

Does anyone have any ideas or know if Disney can do anything for something like this?

We are staying at POR. Can we give the envelope to our hotel desk and ask them to put colored balloons in our hotel room (we will provide the balloons)? Or will they put anything in the room if balloons are not possible? Or do they not do anything like this at all?

Does anyone have any other recommendations? I have thought about having a friend open the envelope and call a local baker in the WDW area to make cupcakes with the right color filling. We can go and pick them up when we get there. This just seems to be a bit more work and is relatively unrelated to Disney except that it would be done while we're there.

All thoughts and suggestions appreciated! Thank you.

Last time I was there, I was behind a couple at the Emporium who took two outfits (I think) to the register. They handed them, the gender envelope, and I assume payment to the clerk and turned their backs. The clerk rang out the "correct" one, hid the "wrong" one, and then gave them the boxed outfit. The couple headed out to MS to (I presume) open the box in front of a photographer. Thought that was a great idea!

That's a neat idea. Thank you! If we can't do something at the resort, I will keep this in mind.

So cute - love that idea! Could even do it with a Mickey or Minnie item.

I really like the idea in post #2!

I really wanted to do something like this when I went 2 years ago, but I was only 15 weeks, so I couldn't find out the gender until a few weeks after our trip. I've looked for baby items before knowing the gender when both my sister and myself were pregnant and I had a really hard time finding gender-neutral stuff. I ended up getting a Winnie the Pooh toy to hang on a car seat for my sister, and both of her boys have lived it. I was thoroughly convinced I was carrying a girl, and I did pick a pearl at Epcot. Mother's intuition isn't always correct as I have a son. But I hope I'll have a daughter-in-law one day and I can give it to her.

Good luck with whatever you choose and have fun!

I normally hate "gender reveal" nonsense, but this is a cute idea.

There's a gender reveal post on the Disney World Tips board that includes pictures. If you have a moment, check it out for a variation on the Mickey ears idea.

Yes, I searched the boards before posting, but only saw the one. I was really hoping the resort might be able to do something if we asked them to put something in our room. But it doesn't seem like that is possible I guess?

It never hurts to ask.

You can maybe call Disney Florist. They make and deliver specialty gift baskets and if you send them the envelope, they may be able to do something more along the lines of what you're looking for. I don't have their number off hand but if you google Disney Florist I'm sure it'll come up

I was behind a couple at Character Spot (Epcot; meet Mickey, Goofy and Minnie - individually, one at a time, in AC (indoors) with FP) last summer. They did the reveal this way: brought a pink onesie which Mickey held up, standing between the couple. It was adorable. Everyone in line enjoyed the moment - no one minded them taking time to get the picture just right. They posted on FB right from Char. Spot. (The parents to be also had cute t shirts on but I can't remember what they said.) HTH.

Hi there! My husband and I had a name for a boy and a girl picked out pretty much once I found out I was pregnant. We had our doctor put the gender of the baby in a sealed envelope. Then, we went to the hat shop on Main Street, gave it to the CM at the register and told her the following: In this envelop is the gender of our baby, in the other envelope is a boy's name and a girl's name. Please open up the gender envelope and based on the gender personalize the hat with the baby's name. We went back, picked up the sealed bag, then went to Main Street in front of the Castle and had a CM take our picture (or, a few dozen pics...) of my husband and I opening the bag. We were SO thrilled to be having a boy!! After that we took pictures of us with the hat at our various favorite places, put together a pic collage and announced it to the world on FB. **We did call parents/immediate family FIRST before posting on FB. We thought that was a lot more personal than having my parents, his parents, grandparents, etc., find out on social media.**

If you're wanting something put in your room before your arrival so that you walk in to a surprise, no, that's not possible. Room assignments aren't set in stone until you arrive, so your assigned room isn't "yours" until it's cleaned and ready to be occupied, and you've been given the room number.

I'd go with the recommendation to try Disney Florist, and plan your surprise for the next day.

I love the Mickey ears idea! Also if not Disney florist there are several 3rd party services that will make up gift baskets, balloons, etc in your room (after check-in). Come back & let us know what you decide.

On behalf of your social media circle, THANK YOU! Call me a cynic, but all of the social media-ing is getting a little crazy. And to know that you let your closest circle know before posting publicly is very refreshing!

I would do something like this, except instead of an outfit I'd do it with a "baby's first Christmas" ornament.
Other than that, I'd just bring the envelope with me, find a place I loved in one of the parks and just open it there.
