Hiya

I just have a couple of questions for any mums out there.

According to original dating scan I am 26 weeks today, but at that scan it was very difficult to measure baby due to body habitus (thats code for fat lol).

We had one of those lovely 4D scans yesterday and they got great views as he is bigger and I have lost 2 stone in pregnancy (midwife not impressed). And they are measuring him as being due on 7th November (not 16th) so have me at 27+3 today.

Now which date do I go with roughly (I know theres no guarantees with these things)

Im a little lost at scans as I dont really get the technology or meanings, and I get too shy to ask what they mean, I dont wanna seem an idiot

On a good note though we get to go back for another 4d scan in two weeks because this one was cut short due to overbooking

any help appreciated

anna

No advice really but my sister was given 2 dates for both her children & they they both ended up being way off. My niece & nephew were born 2 weeks after the 2nd date given.

Having said that she only had the normal scans & not the 4D version which I imagine is clearer therefore making it easier to measure.

Maybe go for a date in between the two given or see if they can double check at the next scan.

Anna, I think after 20 weeks it is difficult to assess the date from scan as the baby is so big. My consultant always measured the head then the belly from what I can remember ! I think as long as it's not more than 14 days difference they will not change your due date so go with the original.

Don't expect the little one to appear on the exact date! You could go before or a little later, these things are not an exact science! I was lucky I went into labour with DS on my due date! I had an elective c section with DD but was panicking she would come early as my consultant was on holiday :)

With my two I went from the date of my last period, much more scientific than my scans !!! With my son they told me I was having a big baby, he weighed in at 6lbs and according to my dates worked out from my last period he was 3 days late but according to my scan date he was 3 weeks early and my little girl arrived 6 weeks early according to the date of my last period. How exciting though having a 4d scan, I bet it was amazing :)

the earlier scans are normally more accurate at dating pregnancy as most babies growth is the same up till around 12 weeeks after that it can be harder to date a pregnmancy and after 20 weeks is not at all as accurate, they dont normally change dates after 20 weeks unless you havent had a scan before, as the earlier one will be much more accurate.

Not all hospitals work on the same growth charts for babies so the 3d place may be working of diffrent charts to the hospital.
i wouldnt worry too much about the date being diffrent maybe your just growing a bigger baby and in a week few weeks time it may slow down a bit, mention it to the doctors at the hospital, youll have a report from the 3d place but id be very suprised if theychange the dates.

when i was pregnant with ddd who was early she had IUGR (interuterine growth retardation), basically she didnt grow too well and every 2 weeks i had growth scans, some weeks shed grow very well others not so great but it evened out by the end.
good luck with the rest of the pregnancy

i had my dd 12 years ago, and was not well throughout the pregnacy, was also losing weight, they said she was due in the first week of may and i knew she was going to come the begining of april don't ask me how i knew. ;) they also said she was not developing as well as she should be, and they were expecting her to be under 5 pounds, well i had her on the 2 april the day after my ds birthday who was 2 ;) and she arrived at 6 pounds 8ounces, it turned out that i had thyroid problems. which is why i was losing the weight. the midwife was shocked to say the least 4 weeks early and at a good weight.

With all 3 of my children I was given different dates, told 'big baby', 'small baby', baby upside down, back to front, sideways .....

Managed to whip myself up into a frenzy every time but the original dates I was given were the most accurate and all three babies weighed in at 'normal' weights, after 'normal' deliveries, when they eventually appeared :goodvibes

Unfortunately I never managed to lose weight, myself, tho.....:upsidedow

I wouldn't pay too much attention to your dates as you say they are approximate guides only. At the end of the day your baby will arrive when it is ready. My dates have never been right. First time round I was told my baby was engages yet he was still breach :rotfl:

Even this time around I had no idea what the abbreviations on my notes meant, I couldn't even read their handwriting. If you want to know what somethings means ask as nobody will think you are an idiot. Check in the back of your notes booklet as there could be a list there also explaining what everything actually means.
