preferred room vs. standard room at All Star Music

We are currently booked for a family suite at All Star Music. But, I am considering switching to a normal room to save nearly 50%/night. What is the difference between a standard room and a preferred room? Is the location the only difference? If you have stayed in both a family suite and a regular room, what would you recommend? We can afford the family suite, and in truth the trip is already paid for, but I would use the credit towards purchasing the dining plan (which we will purchase anyway with mostly $$ from our Disney Rewards Visa). We will be travelling with myself (29), DDalmost 5, DSalmost 2 and my Mom (55). DS will sleep in a pack-n-play. Thanks for your tips!

I would stick with the Family Suite. You do pay more, but I think the extra space would be great, especially the 2nd bathroom! Also your mom could then sleep in the bedroom, and have a little privacy and time to recharge. You could sleep in the family room with your kids. The pull outs in the family room are comfortable, I shared one with my then 13yr old niece.

If you plan on returning to the resort for naps, the suite will come in handy. You can put the kiddies down for a nap, and watch tv in the other room, and not have to worry about waking them up.

If you can afford it, go with theFamily Suite. They are very nice!:thumbsup2

I'm probably not going to help you at all as we haven't went on our trip yet but here's my 2 cents :)

I was told the difference in preferred and standard is the location only (ie. rooms aren't bigger, no fridge in one over the other etc.) you are simply closer to the food courts and bus stop - which with kids your age it might be worth the extra $$ (it is for us - we have kids the same age!).

I looked at the suites at ASMu too but the pull out beds looked uncomfortable to me. If it's just you, your mom and the kids I wouldn't spend the extra cash on a suite. Once our kids are asleep TV and stuff doesn't wake them so there isn't a need for the extra space. With the pack n' play it will be tight in the room but I'd rather be a little tight on space and have more $$ souvenirs

btw- we are staying at ASSp (Surf's Up!)

I've stayed in both a preferred room and a regular room and there is no difference, other than location. In fact, I preferred the regular room as our preferred room was right near the pool and I found it a bit noisy.

it depends on when you're going. If it's peak season then preferred room at ASMusic is a great advantage to the long trek some people have to take from the regular rooms. Ours was a standard preferred last time at ASMusic. We were right off the main pool ground floor and a very short walk into the main hall. My mother and sister were in a regular room and, after 1 night, begged and pleaded for a preferred room. No luck, they were all booked. They were kept up all night long by all the travel groups partying all night. The front desk told them they try and put all the groups as far back as possible, in regular rooms. Then again, you could always change to a regular and put in a request for the buildings closest to preferred (we were in Calypso). I loved our location so much I plan to request the same room again next time we stay at ASMusic. We're planning to stay at Pop and WL next time though.
