Greetings from a long-time yet inactive member who's planning his family's first trip to Orlando in 10 years! I'm so glad this community is still here! Just 75 days! Gots to get crackin'!

We're a family of five who want to stay on Universal property March 24-26 while enjoying the parks.

Can someone describe their experience of purchasing a Preferred AP for one member of their party, to obtain passholder discounts on resort reservations, park tickets, food and souvenirs?

I think I've got a good idea of the benefits that come with a Preferred AP. I've carefully read the details on the Universal website and everything seems clear.

What I'm really hoping to learn is -------- "What's been your experience with the strategy?"

I just checked your dates for the hotel stays. I don't see any AP rates available and the prices are sky high!

DH has preferred we have power, no issues showing his pass to get discount on food/drinks for all of us or to save on a hair wrap for DD.

And prices HAVE been sky high for months now. Sigh. Darn that Easter. (didn't know Easter was that weekend and booked a cruise nearly a year ago...wanted to stay at Uni before or after but that is NOT going to happen with those rates)

I just priced out park tickets for my mom who is joining us this trip and found that it was slightly cheaper to buy her a 3 day park to park ticket through UT than it was to purchase at the gate using the AP 15% discount.

One person has preferred in our family and the other four have power. The power still gives hotel discounts - though our PIN code was the cheapest way to go for the last trip - and not going through Universal was the cheapest option for our next trip trip. We took full advantage of the 10% off food though. We were in the parks for 6 days and every place we went gave us the 10% discount. You just need to make sure the person with the preferred pass is paying.

Park tickets were cheaper through UT than using our AP when I bought them for my nephews. We did the buy two get the third day free option through them.

What is UT?
