Pre-Trip Report for Wednesday, November 10, 2004:
CHARACTER CAST:
MOM - She is a character alright. 57 years old, loves CoP and hasn't told her BF yet that we are leaving tomorrow because of the goodbye scene he'll make.
ME - 34 year old Disney nut who can't wait to just breath in the air of Disney.
PLANNING THE TRIP:
Have I told you I love Disney yet? Well I do. I love feeling like I'm 10 again and that all things are great in the land of Disney. Mom and I have done a few past trips together (last time Dec. 2002). We don't like to to go to Disney when its hot so we always go in the winter offseason months. I also had a fabulous solo vacation there (10 days) last year in November and it was the greatest time - never felt that relaxed in sometime (especially since prior to that time my job was in jeopardy from firm split, I was involved in an accident, refinery down the street from my house had a big fire and we were evacuated and my grandmother had major surgery - all of this happened within a 2 week time period).
Anyway this past July I was already thinking about going back to Disney (I never really stop thinking about a possible date to go back but they don't always work out in the end). Asked mom if she wanted to go - Response, "We'll see." Maybe you'll see but either way I am going. For some strange reason I decided to see if I could rent DVC points. Voile' contacted an owner who had posted and before you knew it, I had rented points. Boardwalk here we come. Forwarded all necessary paperwork for trip. Now if I could only get a code for a regular room both before and after moving to Boardwalk.
August - comes and goes and mom decides she wants to go but plans have to be tweaked a bit as we have to be back in time to pick up dogs from kennel without second weekend cost.
September - The bad month this year. I had to put my dog, Baby, to sleep. Very upset and still haven't quite gotten over it yet. Good news was I saved a dog from SPCA (poor thing about to go back into a kennel). Then we had to run from Hurricane Ivan (at this point, I thought I was going to have to cancel the trip as Ivan was heading straight for my house). 24 hours in a car trying to flee to Houston (normally a 6 hour drive). One of moms dogs had to be put to sleep on the way to Houston (middle of the night, 24 hour vet). Not to mention that we had to put out money that would've gone to the Disney vacation. Good news for us is that Ivan turned away last minute but of course hit AL/FL. However, we are still able to go though and now really need the vacation. Very Good news was that before end of month, called to add additional day at Disney and had a postcard on file. I was able to add on a night at CSR, $79 or $82 was the rate so I was
October - began to get our acts together and doing Happy 30 day dance.
November - we'll we began packing the vehicle last night but did rethink the trip altogether. Grandmother has been really sick the past 2 weeks and we are worried but she tells us to go (she broke a rib two weeks ago in a fall, found out she had an ulcer last week causing an additional problem and her diabetes is up/down probably from the various new meds she is on.) Additionally, as mom was shopping in Walmart for the trip someone hit her car in the parking lot (now we have to make a claim as they damaged bumper, side and tail light). At this point we are both praying that everything goes smooth on the trip. Last little note, mom hasn't informed BF (of about 4 years) that she is going on trip yet. He can be a bit of a baby (actually he can get quite whiny about things) and mom wants to avoid the whole scene so now we leave tomorrow after work as he will still be at work thereby missing whiny scene.
As of now, my orignal plans have been thrown out of the window. Why? Because I had planned to come home and sleep a few hours before beginning drive, then driving full way there. This has been thrown out the window as leaving after work. I think we may stop in Tallahassee depending on how tired we are or may try to get further but will have to see. Anway, hoping and praying we have a wonderful trip.
