This is my first post on the DIS and it will be my first visit to WDW in 15 years, to the day when I first went with my mother and 2 sisters (Dad had to work.)

There was a brief spin around Downtown Disney about 13 years ago with the grandparents, but we did only window shopping and went to Seaworld instead.

This trip is part solo trip, but mostly family reunion. :grouphug: I have many relatives & friends who have relocated to Florida in the past 15 years, so I decided, that instead of spending half the week in the car (Florida is huge) and half my money on gas, bad fast food, and sleeping on assorted family sofa-beds, that I would stay with Walt Disney World and relatives and friends could come and see me.

The Cast is as follows:
Me, Myself and I: 32 man, Single, no kids, Chef (ChefMickey123) of a boutique resort by trade-musician for fun-and a bunch of small hobbies on the side. Lives in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

Mom: Age withheld, woman, divorced and remarried, 3 grown kids from first marriage of which I am the oldest. Relocated to Naples, FL from NC 8 years ago, originally PA Native. Excellent seamstress, and florist. Now works retail selling fancy upholstery fabric to interior designers for rich people.

Grandmother, Maternal a.k.a.-“Mammy”: Age withheld, woman, married for 50 plus years to my Grandfather-3 grown kids, 3 grown grandkids, 4 more grandchildren who act 20 years older than they are…sometimes. Relocated from PA to Leesburg, FL 16 years ago. Retired Admin. Assistant.

Grandfather, Maternal a.k.a.-“Pappy”-Age doesn’t matter to him, man, married 50 plus years to Mammy, same stats as her. Retired Professional Photographer for a big steel company.

Aunt Barb-Pappy’s sister, retired florist, relocated to Daytona area last year. Still very young at heart. Has year-long passes to Disney, former vacation club pro. Probably could write her own book about WDW. Has a Mickey Mouse-themed bathroom. 3 grown kids, 3 teenage grandkids. Writes children’s books in her spare time.

Uncle Ed-Aunt Barb’s husband-Currently works as a truck dispatcher for a large food service company near Daytona. Nicest man you’ll ever meet with a great family. Puts up with, and secretly enjoys Aunt Barb’s Disney obsession.

BJ & Jeff-Retired friends of the family, like a second set of parents, 2 grown kids, relocated to St. Augustine 2 years ago. I don’t know if they are coming or not at this point.

The Big Plan Overview:

7-Day/6-Night SupercalifragilisticDisneyWorldVacation

Booked on Disneyworld.com & with CM Marshall’s help when I wanted to extend my trip. (WDW Travel Co.)

April 19-25, 2008

Resort: Port Orleans Riverside, Standard Room

Park Tickets: 7-Day Park Hopper, no water parks or golf option

Transportation: Continental from *** to MCO, $255.00 (Wow, with early Sunday arrival and late Saturday Departure) & Disney’s Magical Express-both ways.

Tours: Hoping for Seas Aqua Tour, will book this week.
Resort Guest Features: Magic Your Way with Deluxe Dining Package (3 Table service plus 2 snacks per night)

ADR’s—All made today at 7-am EST (5am my time, that was early), exactly 90 days out, and I was the first call in the reservation center this morning, like a good DIS board reader. By the way, the cast member booking my ADR’s was excellent, even early in the morning. I was on and off the phone in less than 30 minutes, including the survey. It helped that I had my act together (credit card #, reservation #, what restaurants, days meals, times, etc.-and most important-pen and paper, as each ADR has its own reservation number).
ADR’s Follow:

Sunday, April 19, 6:25pm, Solo Dining at Yachtsman Steakhouse, Y&B Club

Monday, April 20, Noon, Dining with Mom at Chefs de France, Epcot

Monday, April 20, 8pm, Solo Dining at Jiko, AK Lodge

Tuesday, April 21, 11am, Solo Dining at Yak & Yeti, Animal Kingdom

Tuesday, April 21, 5pm, Dining with Mammy & Pappy at Planet Hollywood,
Downtown Disney

Wednesday, April 22, 9am, Solo Breakfast at Grand Floridian Café, Grand Floridian

Wednesday, April 22, 7:50pm, Solo Dining, California Grille, Contemporary Resort

Thursday, April 23, 11:30am, Solo Dining, The Hollywood Brown Derby, Hollywood Studios

Thursday, April 23, 7:55pm, Solo Dining, Citricos, Grand Floridian

Friday, April 24, 11:30am, Dining with Aunt Barb and Uncle Ed, Le Cellier,
Epcot

Friday, April 24, 5:15pm (but “be there 30 minutes early”), Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show with Aunt Barb and Uncle Ed (Yeah, beer included with this one!), Category 2 seats (because of my dining plan). Luau Cove at Polynesian Resort.

Saturday, April 25, Time to go home. Blow the rest of snack dining plan credits (if any left) on stuff for the road.
I will probably have sit down breakfast at my hotel that morning, as even though I have a lot of 2 meal credit ADR’s, I still have one credit left.
Last minute souvenirs, one last ride on whatever, one (or more-I’m not driving until the next day-staying overnight at home airport hotel) for the road.

Other Plans:
I am happy to say that I think my trip will be a good balance of fun with family and alone relaxation time. I am not too concerned if my family does not want to do certain attractions-I can come back on my two solo days and take care of that 3rd or 4th trip down Splash Mountain-or sit through the Tiki Birds until I am insane. I also cannot see my family members jumping in the reef tank with the sharks and I at the Seas at Epcot. I am just looking forward to spending time with them-it has been 3 years since I have seen any of these people.

I am going to try the nighttime Extra Magic Hours on Sunday at the Magic Kingdom, they are open ‘til 1am the next morning.
Only a couple of bummers on this trip:

Space Mountain will be closed for rehab. (I am thoroughly looking forward to Expedition Everest and Rock N’ Roller Coaster Though)

No more Pleasure Island Nightclubs. (I am sure there will be other ways to enjoy myself)

Must Do List:
At least one tour

MK: Get a Haircut on Main Street U.S.A., Character Photos with Family, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, The Steam Train, Philharmagic, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, pirate: the Emporium for Shopping, Get a trading pin lanyard and start trading..and of course, ride It’s a Small World until I can no longer stand it.

Hollywood Studios: Fantasmic, Indiana Jones Show, Rock N’ Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, Muppets 3D, Toy Story Mania, Great Movie Ride, American Idol (I am too old to sing, but I can watch), Star Tours, Honey I shrunk the Audience

Epcot: Sample Libations, Aqua Seas Tour, Eat a lot, look at the landscaping, Illuminations, Soarin’, Mission Space, Try the different Cokes, See the energy universe thing, Test Track, Maelstrom, Rio de Tiempo (I understand this is not so boring anymore), go through the greenhouse tour, and shop in all the different countries of the World Showcase.

Animal Kingdom: Everything possible, but especially the Expedition Everest and the River Ride thing.

Resorts: Nose around the Grand Floridian, and ride the bus around checking out all the new places since I have been there last. Swim in the fancy pool at my hotel.

All of this said, even the best laid plans “of Mice and Men” don’t go exactly as planned. Stay Tuned for Updates. This board is a great one, and I extracted much help from it to make my plans. As you can tell-I like to eat-I hope I can make all of my ADR’s. Thank you for enduring my long-windedness.

Yesterday, in the mail, I received my official DVD from Disneyworld. It was great to see all of the new stuff, and to get a mini tour of each resort.

The kids section was cute. I have decided that I must try Toy Story Midway Mania-at all costs.

BTW, I am now seriously addicted to reading posts on this website.

:rotfl2:

Hey Chef! You live in a beautiful part of the world! DH and I lived in Loveland for years, the city not the ski resort. LOL. We went on retreat to Salida, I think. Somewhere around there. Still have family in CO so we go back when we can afford it.

Sounds like you are going to be doing a LOT of eating on your trip! I would love to do that some time but there is no way I could get DS8 to sit through all those meals. I'll have to live vicariously...

Looking forward to more.

Hey JMS-You are right, I am going to be doing a lot of eating. I decided on the Deluxe Disney Dining plan and it is well worth it for me, as I really will be either dining with myself or adults. I picked the Deluxe over the regular dining plan because of the opportunity to "double up" on the meal credits to eat at the fancy places. With all those AdrS I still have a meal to spare, plus the snack options are sooo varied. If you are interested, I am the chef at Mt. Princeton HSR in Nathrop. I go to church in Salida, and am there alot.:)

Hey Mom to three boys-Great pre-trip report. We shall have to look for eachother on the boat or in the bus lines.

I will try to figure out how to put pictures on this forum before too long.

Yesterday, I had several pleasant surprises in the mail regarding my SupercalifragilisticDisneyWorldVacation.

I received my custom park and property maps. They look beautiful. I should have them framed. They are color coded with everything I want to see highlighted in kind of a pirate map color. The maps also came with stickers to mark anything else I wanted to see, plus a big star stickers to mark my resort, and a couple of Sorcerer's Apprentice Stickers just for fun.

In addition, I ordered some books and music from "That river in South America which also sells stuff".

I received: Disney's Greatest hits Vols. 1 & 2
Birbaum's 2009 Official Guide
The Unofficial Guid for Grownups.

I am not going to lie-I stayed up until 2 am reading and listening.

We are now somewhere around the 85 day mark until I get to WDW.

Thanks for reading. I am also enjoying reading everyone's PTRs and TRs.

Thanks for Posting

:sad2: I just sent another huge check towards my vacation at WDW.

I know it soon will be over, and it will be nice to go on vacation without having to worry about money. ::MickeyMo

The pain will all be worth it, and my checkbook will recover, magicallypixiedust:

Your checkbook will recover and you'll have memories that last a lifetime! Once it's paid off you won't even think about it while you're enjoying yourself at WDW! :goodvibes

You are right. I only have one more hunk of paycheck to fork over to the Big Cheese before my 45 day mark, and I will likely be done 60 days out.

I am looking forward to creating wonderful memories with my family, and having some time to my self.

Thanks for your post.:)

:) I just booked my Aqua Seas Tour (non-Scuba tank swim) at Epcot for the Wednesday I am there. So far 5 other folks are with me on the tour, they take a max of 12 a day. By the way, the tour no longer costs $115. The tour now costs a whopping $140 a person, and I am sure it is worth every penny.

The nice CM told me to be outside of epcot at Guest Relations 20 minutes before the appointed tour time, to bring an i.d., swimsuit (but not wear it), and TO BE PREPARED TO SIGN A WAIVER (I guess in case I meet up with Bruce from "Finding Nemo").

I have never been snorkeling or scuba diving so this should be an experience to remember.

LOL!! The one and only time I ever went snorkeling WAS an experience to remember!! I was in Jamaica on a missions trip with my church....we had taken a day to rest and enjoy the island. We were on the beach in Negril when we decided it would be fun to go snorkeling....in the Caribbean...sign me up! Anyway, long story short, I get very seasick and had mistakenly believed that I could snorkel because I could swim and THAT didn't make me sick. WRONG!!! I snorkeled happily in the beautiful blue-green water for about 20 minutes before I started vomiting uncontrollably! :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: It was horrifying!! LOL! Enjoy your snorkeling....better you than me!

That is hilarious-although I feel bad about you not feeling good. I did not think it was possible to get seasick from floating around. I hope you didn't "feed the fish" through your snorkel. Fortunately, I don't get motion sickness. I am more afraid of the fish in the tank taking off body parts or surprising me so that I scream like a little girl in public. I may visit the WS for some liquid courage before heading over for my tour swim with the fishes.

:offtopic: Oh, BTW-I think I figured out the signature and avatar thing:

A little background on the Avatar- I really enjoy the Phantom of the Opera. I used to play it for piano lessons, sing it, and I have seen it live 4 times-2 times in London, once in NYC, and most recently-front row center in Las Vegas.

:hmghost: -Closest smilies to the Phantom

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone on the DIS. Thanks for reading my pre-trip report.:lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

thought I would stop by your PTR... sounds like a great trip... you;ll have to take tons of photos of POR and post them... it will be my first stay at that MOD.... sounds like you will have a great time with your family... I am so jealous of your dining plans... sounds like just the places I would like to eat when I can convince DH and I to go just the two of us!!!

Happy Belated Valentine's Day!

We decided to upgrade to the deluxe plan for our trip. We are eating and many of the same restaurants that you are. I just have to say that I hope you will do a dining report. I'd especially love to hear your point of view of the food/presentation.:goodvibes

You Know it is funny that you mention the dining report. I had a question about the Dining plan yesterday and had to call the Disney reservations people, and I mentioned what I did for a living, and the cast member said that I should provide some feedback to them while I was there. (Could have been idle Disney flattery) I also did my senior thesis on Disneyworld's Food Service.

I am hoping to have some serious dining reviews and food photos for everyone when I get back. I like many of Kevin's reviews on this board, but I tend to go a bit easier on things like special requests/portion versus price than he does. Being in the business, I am more willing to try things how the chefs intend them when I go out to eat Sometimes, I am brave enough to let the chef or server pick my meal and drinks for me:scared1:

I realize this is not the case with many people, and so Kevin must test the waters to see if special requests are handled well.

I am glad you upgraded to deluxe. I did a little math:teacher: and found that even with the two credit restaurants, I am saving about $170 for the week with the plan.:woohoo:
