6 weeks…. 6 weeks!!! Somewhere, inside me, an insane person lurks who would like to shout this off the roof tops: “6 WEEKS!!” I want to grab random strangers by the shoulders and happily shout, with a mad glint in my eye: “Six weeks miss/mister/child/person of indefinable gender”

Only six weeks left, 42 days… our vacation is finally getting near. We started planning this holiday somewhere in the 1920’s, at least it feels that way. Oh who am I kidding… when I say ‘we’, I truly mean ‘I’ whilst the rest of my fellow travellers have been backing away slowly and avoiding eye-contact. And who can blame them. This early planning thing has really not been good for what little mental sanity I possess. :dance3:

So I am about as excited as a two year old who had six times the allowed sugar intake, and I have been in this state of hyper happiness for months now. Feel free to pity all those who surround me.

Let me introduce our travelling ‘cast’ (love how you people call the travellers the cast, so I feel I must be a heard animal and follow by example)

Well there is DH, who is observing my Disney madness with mild amusement and equal amounts of fear. He is not a great Disney lover (not a hater either) but I am working on him and slowly but surely he is getting there. My cunning plan is to have him skipping around and counting the days for our next trip (which, of course, is inevitable):cloud9:

Then there is the star of our show DD, Elora, who will be slightly over 2 ½ when we take off to Disney World. She is as excited as I am, though she has never been to Disney.
display_picture.php
Little miss nosey has been following my every move with her little hawk eyes and she actually recognises Disney world now from pictures (and when she does, she’ll shout in a voice a few octaves higher than her regular voice: ‘That’s Disney World…’ And then she will go into a lengthy monologue what Disney characters she will meet and/ or hug):lovestruc
display_picture.php

Then we have a late character in our wonderful and wacky show: DM. My mom will be joining us after 8 days into our trip. :hippie:

And last, there’s me, your tourguide. Now I am a bit rusty at this because my last trip was in January 2000 and seeing that we are going in December 2009 now, I think I can legally count it as 10 year since my last trip. Things were very different then.:wizard:

So, mom and I have been to Disney World a few times since our first trip in 1980. Which is pretty cool considering it’s not exactly around the corner for us. It takes us at least 9 ½ hours by plane to even get to Orlando (and that’s if we are lucky and get a direct flight) Not to mention the 6 hour time difference that really does comical things to my mind.

This trip will be special though, really special. It’s my daughters first trip to Disney and also my husband (though he has been to Disneyland Paris before) and it is our (yup OUR, also mine!!) first time staying on site. We are staying in the Animal Kingdom Lodge for three glorious weeks. The sheer thought of that makes me giddy inside and makes me want to practice my nature calls. I said… makes me want… I won’t, don’t want to risk people locking me up… I heard it only takes 7 signatures, I am sure those are not hard to find.:scared1:

So now I am counting the days (thanks to this ticker I found on the internet, I am secretly counting the hours too… but if you repeat that, I shall deny EVERYTHING) until I get to skip along the Disney parks, singing Zippedeedoodah on the top of my voice.:rotfl:

Now there is one more thing that instantly turns me into a four year old when I think of it… we’re going from November 30th until December 21st, when the Christmas decorations are up!! There is something about Christmas that I really love. When I was eight, my mom and I went to Disney World during Christmas and I remember seeing the biggest Christmas tree I had ever seen. I can’t wait to show my daughter that same (or similar) tree.
:santa:

Life is good!! We got some nice ADR’s this time too. (Last time we lived of burgers for nine days… lunch, dinner, and I think even for breakfast once. Now I don’t mind a good burger… and they were good… but after nine days… I actually gagged for some sort of vegetable that didn’t come attached to a burger) This will be our first time doing character dining as well. I hope we like it, because I booked almost every character meal I could find (almost.. not quite all)

And so my DH is going to have to put up with the ‘6 Weeks’ rant for another week…. For then I shall be singing a different tune (called: “five weeks”) And I shall be counting days and hours and what not until our fabbity fab vacation.
Meanwhile I am going to have to live vicariously through all the Dissers who have had their holidays and were kind enough to jot them down in the trip report sections (keep em coming folks, I can almost imagine myself with you on your trips… in a non creepy or stalkery way, thank you very much!!)

Yeah, I'm here! Great start so far! :cool1:

3 weeks?! Awesome!! That is so cool!

Elora is such a beautiful name, I love it! :cutie:

Can't wait to read more!

- Katie :goodvibes

:santa: We'll be there at the same time! We're going from Dec 1st to Dec 12th at the pop!
and I know what you mean about people thinking you're insane, my family and friends think I have totally lost it in my trip planning obsession!
your daughter is beautiful and so is her name--I love it!

Elora is such a beautiful name, I love it! :cutie:

- Katie :goodvibes

Thank you so much :cutie: we have mr Lucas to thank for that one, in all fairness

We're not sad fantastasy fanatics at all... no sirree, not us... the fact that my daughters initials are E.L.F. has nothing to do with the fact that we are secretly ubernerds ;)

Woohoo, it's so close! How exciting. Your daughter is just a doll!

Woohoo, it's so close! How exciting. Your daughter is just a doll!

She truly is... most of the time she is all sugar and spice and made of porceline...

And sometimes (thank god very rarely) she is a regular chuckie... :rotfl:

I catch my 2 1/2 year old staring hungrily at the chain of paperclips that is hanging from my bedside lamp. Her little finger is counting the paperclips, but she's not so good at counting yet. She can say the numbers (1-16) but it's not real counting, so the outcome is different everytime she counts.

Now I hear you ask: Why do you have a chain of paperclips hanging from your bedside lamp? Well this is because my mother decided to tell Elora a few months ago that we are going to Disney world. Elora has never been to Disney World, she has no idea what it really is, but for some reason she is excited anyway and I have a child with a memory that would make an elephant sigh with envy.

I think it is appropriate to tell you a little more about my little girl and that will also explain why I am a little nervous about the very long trip to Florida.

Foto-TYEWKTRE.jpg

(elora is the girl in the front with the pink and brown)

Elora will be 3 on february 23rd next year. Every child has a talent, my child's talent is 'the gift of gab'. Elora has been speaking in full sentences since she was 17 months old and though very cute, it has it's down side... she NEVER shuts up. And when I say never, I really mean NEVER. This child even talks in her sleep.:scared1: Now I am a pretty chatty person, but she even tires me out.

Now, as for my slight anxiety to spend 9 1/2 hours straight in a plane with her... this is not because I am afraid of tantrums. Elora has only had two tantrums in her life and both were when she were sleeping. She's rarely cries (not even when she hurts herself, she usually only cries when she is really tired AND hurts herself or if she is tired and something gave her a fright... and that is rare too)

But she is relentless when it comes to seeking attention. RELENTLESS. She will find all sorts of ways to get you involved in her games. She just yaks and yaks and fysically she is really hyper active as well. We keep down her sugar intake not only for health reasons, but also for OUR sanity. :rotfl:

I am dreading the reaction of the fellow passengers. You see, my child is also not shy and she will chat to ANYONE who happens to accidentally glance her way. (Should you be in the same plane as us... avoid eye contact!!) And she will go on and on and not leave you alone. We are taking a carseat so we can strap her down! Because sitting still is also not her strong point. I dread to sit behind people this trip with her kicking seats or leaning over the seats and yapping to any random person. (as I am writing this my daughter is leaning over my laptop and pointing out which of the smilies on the right side of the screen she likes most)

We are raising Elora to be bilingual, so she understands English. Unfortunately she chooses not to really speak English though, she tends to reply in Dutch when someone speaks English to her. I hope this will change when she hears a lot of people conversing in English around her.

So that's my girl. She's absolutely sweet and loverly, creative, funny and completely wild and chatty. And of course like most two year olds she can be stuborn like a mule and she thinks she knows everything better than us!:lmao:

Did I explain the paperclip chain yet? I'm sorry, I have the attentionspan of a goldfish and it doesn't help that my hyper two year old is trying to deliver me 'parcels' made out of empty toilet paper rolls and a toy.

The paperclip chain represents the weeks we have left until our trip. Every sunday a paperclip (which represents one week) comes off. When there is two weeks left we are going to replace the paperclip chain with a paper chain that represents the days left, so Elora can keep cutting off one of the rings every night.

40 more days till our holiday, but also 40 more days until the dreaded flight. My husband is terrified of flying, which does not help the situation. Because there were no direct flights from the Netherlands to Florida when we booked (now ofcourse that has changed) we decided to split our trip in two. First we fly to England and we are staying the night there (which will be fun too, I used to live in England and I miss it sometimes) and the next day we are going to fly from London Gatwick to Florida.

We are bringing a lot of little presents with things like colouring books, pencils, clay etc with us for the trip. Every hour or so she can unwrap one to keep her busy. I really hope that she can sleep in the plane, but I am prepared for the worst. My child almost never sleeps in the car, no matter how late it is or how tired she is...

But, her hyperactive nature also has an upside. She truly enjoys everything she does and she does everything with gusto. The littlest thing can cause a surge of excitement and joy. She is actually (in)famous for her good moods. I can't wait to 'unleash' my happy bunny unto disney world and unto the characters (I am afraid ole Cinders is going to have her own personal stalker):rotfl:

It will be great:woohoo:

Hi!

I followed your link in your siggie from the food picture thread (anyone who posts pictures of cupcakes then jokes about body parts lost in them is bound to hook me in!)

Can't wait to read all about the plans and trip!

Hi! I just found you today! Your trip sounds great and you make it fun to read! Can't wait for more! Elora is adorable! We will be there at the same time as you...we are doing a split stay at POR and AKV.

hahaha, I don't think everyone appreciated that, because I just saw that my bit was removed :rotfl: Whoopsi!!!

*grin* I had to think a little before I realised that POR was Port Orleans Riverside (I am just not a disney hotel pro yet... though I inspire to be... it's good to dream :hippie:)

You are very lucky. AKV sounds absolutely lovely!!! I am completely stoked that we are going to the AKL!!! I can't believe we are staying in a hotel that is practically in a zoo!!!

And so the serious count-down has started. Suitcases are scattered in our bedroom, half filled with potential clothing I might want to bring. The temperature in the Hague (the city that I live) is reasonably chilly right now 9 degrees celcius (which thanks to some internet converter, I can tell you is 48 fahrenheit) with rain and frosty winds. So it feels weird to be packing t-shirts. Though we are going prepared for all sorts of weather, one can never know. The only thing I am not bringing are sweaters, because they take up too much space and it will be a good excuse to buy one in Disney world with a funky print on it! It can't be colder than here in Florida and I haven't worn a sweater yet.

To be real honest... I am dreading the trip itself... the travelling part. The kind of: "Wake up screaming with a sweaty face" dread. I have pictured every monstrous scenario possible.

Elora is a sweetheart. A chatterbox, but a sweatheart and so far we have been able to take her anywhere. Even fancy restaurants, weddings or other affairs. She listens pretty well. But, like every other toddler, she can also be rather stubborn and sometimes she can be down right annoying. And when she is, she will pick moments that are the worst moments to be annoying.

I am thinking, she might pick the long flight as a good time to be tiresome. :scared1:

The reason why I think this, is because Elora's favourite time to be snooty and disagreable, is when she is tired. And Elora can't sleep very well if there are a lot of distractions going on. She rarely falls asleep in the car, and finds it hard to sleep anywhere, where there are other people. (this will also be heaps of fun, considering we are sharing a hotel room with her)

So there is a slight chance that she won't sleep at all on the plane... on the 9 1/2 hour flight. And if she doesn't... she is not going to be the little miss sunshine she usually is. She is going to give grumpy a run for his money in being the grumpiest dwarf.

I can just imagine sitting in a plane with a child who is so tired she is beyond all reason. The kind of kid who cries and kicks the chair in front of her....

oh joy:eek: :dance3::eek:

This is of course the ultimate doom scenario... but prepare for the worst... hope for the best. There is also a chance that Elora takes it upon herself to introduce herself to the whole plane. She is really social (a little too social according to anyone who likes peace and quiet)

But anyway, I keep thinking about it this way... what's two days of potential hell, compared to the 20 days of heaven afterwards? :dance3:

I am looking forward to going to Disney world. And I want to enjoy as many things as possible. Even if the trip with a terrified husband (hates, hates, hates flying) and a chatterbox insomniac daughter is a little daunting...

LOL We all have that pre-trip anxiety!! It may be for different reasons, but alas it is always there! I feel like I am forgetting to do something or bring something and I have not even started packing yet!!! So, at this point I can not have forgotten to bring something because I have brought nothing!!!!

Hi there!! I can't wait to hear all about your plans :goodvibes

Elora is adorable, such a cute name to go with a beautiful face!

3 weeks at animal kingdom lodge sounds like perfect bliss, you are going to have such an amazing trip!! :woohoo:

Don't let the stress of the flight worry you, just keep the little one entertained with lots of toys and things to keep her busy. I'm sure she'll tire herself out and sleep a little :)

We've been to disney twice before but we'll be taking our first december trip in a couple of weeks and we are soooo excited!! :santa: Can't wait to see all the decorations!

Animal Kingdom Lodge is beautiful, we stayed there for a few nights on our first trip and its lovely :wizard:

Thank you!! And I actually posted her 'monkey face picture' :rotfl: (she was mimicking the gorilla just like her dad.

This is my favourite time of year. My two slightly nutty passions are Disney and Christmas... combine them and you will have my personal heaven. I haven't seen the inside of Disney Days of Christmas yet, but I am afraid I won't want to leave.

I have been in Disney around Christmas time before, but it's been a long, long time. The first time I was 8 years old and with my mum and the second time I was 17, and I was visiting friends of my mums. It really made an impact on me and I really wanted to go again when the decorations are up. I wanted to see the HUGE christmas tree again and get all goofy like that 8 year old from way back when.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is beautiful, we stayed there for a few nights on our first trip and its lovely :wizard:

Ohhhhh I am so excited to stay there. I have NEVER stayed on property before. The last shady motel we stayed at was just horrible. And now... I can't imagine what it will be like!! :woohoo::banana:

Okay, I just realised I haven't even shared our itinerary yet.:confused3:rotfl:

Anyway, because we are travelling with a 2 1/2 year old we are spreading all the disney fun out over a lot of days. We are planning to take lots of rest in between and not make full days at the parks.

We'll be arriving at Orlando airport at 15:40 (local time) (which to us will feel like 21:40 (or 9:40 pm) so our little girl will be pretty tired. From there we are taking the Magic Express (a first for all of us) to the AKL. (can't wait to drive through that big disney entrance for the first time!!!)

We're going to take a bit of a risk and hit the parks the very next day (jet-lag be darned!!!) First we'll have to pick up our rental car at the car care center. At this point the jet lag will come in handy, because we'll probably be up very early, feeling like it is pretty late...

After we pick up the car, we are going to the Magic Kingdom. Usually I am all about 'saving the best for less', but I want our first real Disney moment to be walking down mainstreet and seeing the castle. That is the biggest Disney wow for me, and I want to experience it before anything else!!

We're going to spend the morning there and then have an early lunch somewhere in the park, after which we are going back to the hotel and have a nap (yes, the adults too, we are old and decrepid and will need our nap time... lol, or at least our sit-quietly-in-the-hotel-room-while-our-daughter-sleeps)

After our nap we are going to go to the Hollywood Studios to see the Osborne spectacle of dancing lights and after that we'll have dinner at Bongo's Cuban cafe and maybe dessert at Ghirardelli's

Okay, I just realised I am being very long winded about this, and if I continue like this, my itinerary for 3 weeks will be as long as a college essay... so I am going to shorten it a little, and make it less tedious.

Day three: morning: supercalifragilistic breakfast at 1900 parkfare
afternoon: relaxing in the hotel / go to the supermarket
evening: dinner liberty tree tavern and then sticking around for Spectro parade and wishes.

Day four: morning: Epcot (we'll have lunch there too)
afternoon: relaxing in the hotel
evening: dinner at House of Blues

Day five: morning Animal kingdom (maybe lunch at the flame tree bbq)
Afternoon: napping and staying in hotel
evening: dinner at Boma's and doing some nighttime animal watching.

Day six: morning (if weather permits it) Blizzard Beach other wise maybe trip to the mall (that's quite interesting to us Dutchies, we don't really have malls here)
Afternoon: Maybe lunch at beaches and cream.. and you guessed it... then it's naptime for Elora. Maybe we might go to MK to see the parades that we will miss during other naptimes.
evening: dinner at cape may cafe

Day seven: Morning: downtown disney (doing a bit of shopping)
Afternoon: lunch at T-rex cafe, then napping
evening: dinner at WCC and then go to the Chip and Dale campfire sing a long (and if our little munskin can last that long, a movie on the beach... but I doubt that)

day eight: Morning: Hollywood studios and lunch at the Sci-fi diner
afternoon: rest and relaxation
evening: dinner at Akerhus with the princesses. If we aren't too tired we might go see illuminations

day nine: Morning: Boma breakfast and then either blizzard beach or hanging by the pool (again depending on the weather)
Afternoon: nada
evening: Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic package. Elora's nanna will arrive that night, so it will be great for her.

day ten: morning: Waking up insanely early to go to Chef Mickey's for breakfast
afternoon: Disney quest (maybe have lunch at Disney quest) maybe go see Princess and the frog movie?
evening: non disney, we're going to the Pirate Dinner adventure. 10 years ago this was AWESOME. Night time is mommy and daddy time and nanna is watchin Elora. We're going to try out some Disney cocktails!! :woohoo:

day eleven: Morning and Afternoon: Universal Studios
Evening: dinner at Boma's

day twelve: morning: relaxing and going to the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique, to turn my little E.L.F. into a princess.
afternoon: Lunch at cinderella's royal caste. If it works out a little nap.
evening: dinner at Jiko's

day thirteen: Morning and afternoon: Seaworld
evening: dinner at a friend of my mothers house.

day fourteen: Morning: Magic Kingdom
Afternoon: lunch at chrystal palace, then nap time
evening: cinderella's happily ever after dinner at 1900 PF and then the electrical parade.

day fifteen: morning: Universal Adventure Islands
evening: Dinner at fulton's crabhouse

day sixteen: morning: a whole lot of rest and hanging by the pool
afternoon: lunch: Rainforest cafe then some more rest (this with reason)
evening: quick dinner at Cosmic Ray's and then.... MVMCP!!! YAY!!! :woohoo::santa:

day seventeen: morning: sleeping in
afternoon: mall? or maybe some disney miniature golf
evening: Hoop dee doo musical revue (hurray) and maybe another go at the campfire sing along (if it was fun)

day eighteen: Morning: Animal Kingdom & donald's safari breakfast
afternoon: sleep
evening: hollywood brown derby fantasmic package (hey, my mom hasn't seen it yet, so we are willing to make the sacrifice and see it twice :rotfl:)

day nineteen: Hollywood studios in the morning and an early lunch at the 50's prime time cafe
afternoon: nada
evening: bistro the paris maybe followed up by illuminations?

day twenty: Morning: Epcot
afternoon not a lot of rest
evening: early dinner (actually it's more like a lunch at 15:30) at Chip and Dale's garden grill for the Candlelight processional package. (ooooh I really hope we get to see Whoopi!!) Maybe we'll stick around for some more show's and parades etc.

day twenty-one (our last full day... *sob* :guilty:) morning: breakfast at Ohana's
afternoon: not sure yet, see what we have missed so far
evening: dinner at Chef Mickey's and Elora will have an early night because of the trip the next day. Mom and Dad might not and go to Magic Kingdom which is open until very late. If we feel up to it that is, but it will be nice to do some 'adult rides' for one night.

Day twenty two... the day of sadness and a lot of grumpiness (especially from me, because I am a complete grouch when I have to go back home... the grinch who stole christmas has got nothing on me!! :snooty:)

We'll have breakfast at Boma's and then take the Magical Express (which by then will be a whole lot less magical) to the airport. We'll arrive back in the Netherlands at 8:15 the next day (local time)

Sorry this was so long and tedious. I am very excited. This is just the plan... I love to plan, but I suck at sticking to the plan.. So chances are, we are doing things completely different. I tried to put a lot of rest moments in each day. Maybe there is not enough rest, maybe there is too much. We'll see how things go when we're there. Nothing is set in stone! :dance3:

So Excited for you. Your plans look absolutely fabulous. I wish I had three weeks to spend at WDW. We will actually be there after you leave we arrive Christmas eve and leave on the 30th. So my little trip has nothing on yours.
Your daughter is beautiful. Hopefully she will be chatty and not grumpy on the plane. Will keep my finger crossed for you.

Your plans look great...you should have to problem getting everything in in three weeks time! I think Elora will really enjoy Seaworld also!! It's nice that Nanny is coming to give mommy and daddy a little break in there also!!!!! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much!! Going during actual christmas time must be awesome too!! We considered it, but it's so much more expensive for us to fly during that time, and Elora would miss her Opa (grandfather) too much during christmas)

To be honest, if she mimics any dwarf during the trip... I hope it's sleepy and not grumpy... Coz, chatty, the eight dwarf who went off to make a carreer for himself before snowwhite came along, is a pretty exhausting one. I'll bet ya the other dwarfs drove him out :rotfl: (sorry, I think I am being a little too abstract and da-daistic for my own good tonight)

Elora on chatty mode is very exhausting... she really does not stop talking :rotfl:
