I am the same way before I fly, I wish there was a magic pill to make you feel better! I guess I just try to remember how safe flying is and the statistics etc...... have a cocktail....LOL

While it may not help, the truth is you have a MUCH higher risk of injury and accident on the way too the airport. SO when you get to the airport give a sigh of relief. (I have nearly been killed in two car accidents and never even gotten buised by an airplane!)

Actually, CarolA is totally right. Yesterday my brother and sister-in-law were on the way to the airport for the WDW Anniversary trip and were in a really bad car accident! Their car is totalled but they are actually both fine. (Some guy in a tractor trailer ran a red light. There happened to be a cop right there who saw the whole thing, which was great! The guy a ticket, got yelled at and there is a very credible witness in case of a law suit)

My Mom said it was funny, she got to the hospital and they're both on back boards and in neck braces and they're asking the nurse, "Hey, if we get out of here soon, can we still leave for Florida today??"

They left last night and are at the Magic Kingdom right now. :)

But on a more practical note, I keep myself relaxed on flights by watching the flight attendants. They do this all day every day so if they look calm and as if things are normal, I also feel like we're okay! Give that a try if you can.

I know my dad used to get really worked up about flying, and his dr. would prescribe some type of anti-anxiety pill he took about 1 hour before take off. If you fear is really debilitating, you might want to call today.

Thank you guys!!!!

I visited the fear of flying site which has helped...i plan on doing coctails and my dr prescribed me valium

again I really thank you all, its good to know you can ask anything here and always get great responses, I wish nothting but the most magical disney experiences to all of you.

Valium doesn't do much for me, but my brother gave me some Xanax that I carry for "emergencies." I only take it if the flight will be very bumpy (i.e. flying in storms) or if I am feeling overly anxious for some reason. Most flights I don't need it, but it's nice to know that I have it just in case.

How well does Xanax work? Does it make you tired? How does it make you feel? My Dr will be giving me somethng for anxiety when I fly to Paris, but I'm not sure what she'll choose.....

TIA!

My brother says it gives him that "I don't give a darn about anything" feeling.
Myself, I don't feel a major change, but it seems to take the edge off. For example, I was freaking out about a dentist appointment (I had a previous experience that made me have an anxiety attack just thinking about going back), and about an hour after I took the pill, I didn't feel different but there was no anxiety. On the plane, seems to be the same thing. I've never noticed getting tired from it except once...I took it because we were supposed to be flying in very bad storms, but the pilot was able to take us over them. I ended up sleeping the whole flight...not sure if it was the medication or I was just tired that day because that is the only time I've ever taken it and been sleepy.

One thing to consider if you are drinking before the flight to relax. The airlines have the right to remove you or prohibit you from flying on a flight if they perceive you as being intoxicated. I don't know if you watch the TV show Airline at all, but on a number of episodes they have prohibited people from flying on their flight because they were noticably intoxicated or even if they just thought that they were. I am sure no one plans on being falling down drunk or anything but if the airline gate agents think you are intoxicated they can and will bump you from the flight.
