I spoke to member services today to reserve 5 nights at VWL for 11/30- 12/5. I was told that all the two bedrooms were already reserved at every resort except one left at OKW. I was shocked . I was under the impression that the time before christmas was somewhat of a less crowded time. i ended up with a one bedroom at BWV, but i really could use the 2 bedroom and don't want to go to OKW (no offense intended) . Any suggestions?

Did you ask to be waitlisted?

While that is a slow time at Disney it is a VERY popular time with DVC. I would have booked OKW and waitlisted elsewhere, but I really like the larger rooms at OKW when traveling with a family! (My friends who have stayed on my points toured BCV and said NO way, they will buy resale if they decide to buy they want the space!)

I think also that might be the week of the annual DVC meeting, one reason why it's busy. I'm going 12/6-12/12, and called my guide hoping I'd catch one of the meetings. He wasn't sure of the date, but said it's usually early December before much Christmas holiday things.
BTW, I have ressies already at BCV for 12/8-12/12 in a studio. Sure hope I can get 12/6 and 12/7 when I call tomorrow. Thanks for the warning!

We used to go early December every year and have found that each year this time seems to become more and more popular. And it has become increasingly more difficult to secure a desired reservation during this time with DVC. However, as the other poster mentioned, if put on the waitlist, there is a very good chance that something will open up for you.

I would say to call MS and try to get that 2bed at OKW so youll have the needed space then get on the waitlist. We did daybyday ressies at 11 mos window for VWL in early Dec. Good Luck!!

Early December is not that crowded in the parks because the offsite resorts tend not to be at capacity at that time (school is in session most places). However, it is a popular time for DVC and others in the know to come see the decorations and holiday happenings at WDW. DVC resorts and on-site WDW resorts tend to fill. It is also a popular time for on-line groups to hold get-togethers at WDW.

You should have used your 11 month window. I trust you are a member of VWL. This time of year is popular with members, not the general public, I would try a wait list, in the mean time of course keep your one bedroom.

You're new here so you may want to spend some time going back through the last few pages of posts...there's so much about DVC that they don't tell you about. :)

The first two weeks of December are always a very busy time for the DVC. There are a few things conspiring to make it so:

1) LOW point cost.
I think Disney wants it this way...this is a slow park time and encouraging thousands of rabid DVCers is a good way to fill up some of the empty spaces in the park.
2) LOW park attendence.
Bracketed by two major holidays (and school breaks), most parents are loath to take kids out of school. Even thousands of rabid DVCers can't fill the parks...especially since most of us now relax on Disney vacations...no more commando park missions means sometimes not running the parks all day. :)
3) Holiday Decorations
The World is done up for Christmas.
4) Annual Meetings.
Some day we may even go to one...if we can get out of the
parks or off of the balcony.
5) LOW point cost.

You'll probably find OKW will usually have _something_ available as its a pretty big resort and doesn't have all of the immediate 'entertainment' the other resorts have. Common wisdom seems to be always make the ressie you can make and waitlist the room you really really want.

If you have any other questions, you can try the search engine on the board.

Hope this helps,
Joe

We always go the first or second week of December. I call day by day for my BWV standard 1 bedroom at 11 months, it's a popular time. It's a great time to go, crowds are low, the Christmas festivities are in high gear, points are low. I don't know how much the annual meetings affect it, I went to the BWV one in 2000 and there weren't that many people there, maybe 75 and some were locals. I was at BW on the day of the meeting in 2001 but didn't bother to go.

Thanks to everyone for all the info. I called MS back and waitlisted a 2 bedroom . Seems like the best option.
Thanks again. Someday i'll get the hang of this.

Last Nov 28th we tried getting a room at WDW starting Nov 29th for 8 nights. Guess what? Nothing was available except PO/FQ - really not surprised. I never would have waited past our 11month window if I knew what was going to happen.
