I have read some of the heart-breaking accounts on this board from those who are suffering through family illnesses and death. It is encouraging to see the outpouring of support from all who frequent these boards.

I come to you, now, with my prayer request. My brother (56) has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. And for those of you who know anything
about this cancer or have watched a loved one suffer through it, you know the prognosis is not good. We lost our dad to pancreatic cancer in 1981--after watching him suffer through excruciating trials.

My brother is an exceptional family man with four grown children. Adding to the heartache is that his two daughters had to hear the news while they are traveling (not together) in different parts of the world (China and Korea). My brother is a strong man of faith, but I can only imagine the emotional trauma he is experiencing and the physical pain he likely must yet endure.

Of course, we pray for a miracle. And we certainly pray for strength and encouragement for him and his family as they try to bear this brutal ordeal. My thanks, in advance, for any prayers you can offer on his behalf.

God bless.

I am so very sorry to hear this news about your brother. I lost my 55 year old husband to pancreatic cancer less than two months ago. As you know, it is a beast and a difficult cancer to treat.

I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry that your family is enduring this. I pray for strength for all of you, healing as is God's will for your brother, and skill for the medical professionals he encounters. It's a horrible disease. Hang in there.

So sorry, too, about your loss. What could be more devastating than losing your spouse at such a young age? My heart goes out to you.

To the rest of you, your support is so greatly appreciated!

:grouphug: Prayers said for your brother and family. When my dad was diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer, he was given six months to live. He lived almost 4 years. Even though things look bad, I just always remembered that life and death is ultimately not in our hands.

Thank you for your kind words. It is a devastating loss. We had been together since we were 15 years old. He died five days before our 34th wedding anniversary. I had his memorial service on our anniversary.

My husband was diagnosed in November, 2007 and passed in July, 2008 - an eight month battle.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Hugs Marilyn, you are always in my thoughts and prayers..

To the OP...as I head into Boston today for my DH to have another port put in to administer chemotherapy yet once again to battle this awful cancer, my heart goes to you and your family as you begin to help your brother's family start the battle.

Our battle is a little different, we will be at the 4 year mark election day, 4 years from the Whipple procedure... and treatment after treatment.. but my DH's is slow growing so we have had good times in between the treatment times..

I dread starting again, as I know this treatment is a very difficult one....we are not at trials yet, we are still following protocol....

But if you have any questions, there are many of us who post on this board who have had experience with the battle against Pancreatic Cancer. Most of all, we need more research....we cannot fight the beast without funds for research and so my family will be once again be walking for the Lustgarten Foundation in October raising funds... PanCan is another favorite one of mine and both sites are a wealth of knowledge for you and your family... so make sure you tap into those sources..

Most of all, stay positive, do the best you can to help him get through. It is not an easy battle, he may be lucky and have it slow growing and have more quality time with his family.....or maybe he will be one of the lucky ones in that 2% to survive........that would be awesome

I hope he is able to be operated on as that gives more time, sometimes.. Sending lots of positive energy your way.. we are here for you.
