This is so knew to me...no boys before for me or my sis. When is a good time to start and any tips that really work??
Thanks!!

Between 2 1/2 and 3 worked for my son. We sprinkled Cheerios in the toilet so he could dive bomb them. He was trained in no time.

Well after having potty trained two girls EASILY, I thought my son would be the same way. Boy was I wrong. He was almost three. Tried everything, then one day I was at Big Lots and found a little potty that you could record your voice to play every time he flushed. Well when I showed it to him he thought it was the greatest thing. My son also loves sports so we started this I will race you to the potty and he ran every time. After about 10 days he was totally out of pull ups and not having any accidents. I do put a pull up on him at night but he usually wakes up dry. I say try whatever it takes. I never used a little potty (which he only used for two days, then on to the big potty on his own) with the girls but it worked for him. Now we just need to work on wearing the underwear not backwards! ( He wants to see Spiderman, lol)

I didn't even try. I just let him do what he wanted.. Eventually at age 3 1/2 years, he decided it was time and told me he wanted to wear "dadd undies" and had 1 day full of accidents but kept trying - the next day he was completely trained - day time, night time, naps, everything! We have only had 1 accident since and thats because we were too far from the bathroom

My son was potty trained by 2 1/2. Mush easier then my daughter. I also made him sit when he was learning. I wish sometimes that he still did that! He really did it all himself. Just wanted to sit on the potty like big sister

I used to teach daycare and found that the cheerios were a great trick for most boys there as well :)

Honestly this is the only thing that worked with my DS!

Doing rewards, candy, underware, being naked - non of this worked. He also didn't like the small kid size potty, and didn't like sitting. I did the Cheerio's and he was trained from then on, just not on night. That took time.

Good Luck, it was so frustrating, just remember he won't go to school in diapers as someone said to me.

I have two boys. My first and most important tip would be don't start too soon, and don't stress over it. I wouldn't even start worrying with it till he's three, personally. Boys are slower than girls.
I've known of over-zealous moms starting as soon as they turn two and even earlier..only to go through a year long agonizing process! What's the point? Let them be babies, you know??

Second tip..once you (or he) decides, go straight to real underwear..no pull ups..they are too much like diapers and theres no reason for them not to use them. I bought VERY few pullups..only at the very beginning and when you are going somewhere.

Of course it is different for every kid, but HTH! :)

I used pull-ups at night for a few months. Luckily, my son was very into learning the potty! he wanted to wear "big boy" undies from the time he was 2 or so. At first we had him sit for everything! Then he wanted to stand cuz he saw Dad doing it once. We just told him to aim for the hole at the bottom of the toilet! By the time he was 2 1/2, he was out of the pull ups at night.
Now, if I can only train my 13 month old now...

Read his cues.
My oldest trained at 3 fully from day one of training. We tried at 2.5 with no luck. He just was not ready. When we tried again at 3. He has had 4-5 accidents since day one of training 3 months ago. He was just ready.

My 21 month old is ready now and starting. I am not as aggressive with him because he is still young. I suspect he will be fully trained before his 2nd birthday.

My training tips.
-NO diapers period. I do not believe in going back and forth or diapers at night or when you are out and underpants during the day. It is just confusing.
-Pullups are just glorified and over priced diapers. I did buy a pack for my son. However, we only used them OVER TOP of underwear as a back up. We did this for a couple nights and on our first couple outings. He actually wore the same pair at night because he didn't pee. I still have the whole package minus the 4 pairs we use. I think that if you just put on a pull up it is no different than a dipe. It actually took A LOT of convincing that they were not diapers and special night night underwear when we used them those few nights. He knew they were diapers.
-I started with him sitting down. It was just easier to teach him to sit at first, especially since he needs to sit for #2. Once he was fully trained, I introduced standing up to pee. When he stands, he likes to make pee bubbles in the water. Never tried the cheerios, but would have if needed.
-Lastly, take his cues. If you are struggling he probably is not ready. Boys do take longer.

Anyway, sorry for he book. Just my observations on PTing my son earlier this summer.

We worked and worked with my son at about age 2 1/2. Nothing worked even though I was sure he was ready. I came home from a hair cut one morning and he bragged to me that he went pee-pee in the potty. The trick- DH had him pee standing up (not sitting like daycare). It clicked that day and no accidents since!

Good luck

My peditrcian said wait until he can pull his pants up and down or he is just trainning you. Thats what I did. At about three he wanted to, and it took like four days. Wait for it.;)
