When/if Disney changes the vax requirements for the littles crowd, how do they handle those who just make the cut. In our situation, we have twins that will be just shy of 7 months for our April 30th sailing. Based on previous requirements, will they be expected to be double vaxxed for the sailing? Is it double vaxxed plus 2 weeks out?

In Canada they ask for 8 weeks between injections, so even if I got them their vaccine on the day they turned 6 months we wouldn’t have enough time to get them both doses.

What is the recommended time in between doses in the US? Do any Canadians know if we could request less time in between for the purpose of travel?

Any insights into this based on how they rolled out the 5-11 vaccines would be greatly appreciated.

What DCL did for 12-yr-olds, and now has in place for 5-yr-olds, is a 5-week grace period. A child turning eligible vaccine age within 5 weeks of the sail date is treated as the younger age (needing to test at home, test at embarkation, test for debarkation). Vaccine won't be required.

Typical given your situation, they've allowed you to treat the children as unvaccinated and follow those guidelines. Who knows how they'll handle it though when the idea of an unvaccinated passenger may not even be a thing any longer.

Can't answer how it was handled for the 5-11 roll out. In the US, Pfizer is 3 weeks between 1st and 2nd shot, and Moderna is 4 weeks. Booster is 5 months out for both. This doesn't cover J&J.

Thanks for the answers so far. Does Disney seem someone vaccinated after their second dose or 2 weeks after their second dose?

In the US we expect 3 weeks between dose 1 and 2 for 6 months to 5 years IF approved because that was the study interval and that was what the FDA/ACIP approved for 5-11. But since the FDA/ACIP don't meet on this for another couple weeks we won't know until they make an official decision.

And I believe they are still sorting out if it will be 2 or 3 doses.

I’m just happy there was a grace period so that we hopefully don’t have to cancel. I’d prefer for my entire party to be fully vaxxed so that we could freely leave the ship.

My understanding is the 2 vs 3 doses will not be under discussion this month. Pfizer is still in trials on the 3rd dose and have only submitted data on the 2 dose series. Which is why it was a bit of a surprise they were moving forward now. We (I'm a general pediatrician so have no inside knowledge, just what I've heard from my ID colleagues) were told previously it would be summer at the earliest because of the need to collect data on the 3rd dose. Apparently the thought process is that they want to get those who want the series started on the first 2 doses while collecting data on efficacy after the 3rd since Pfizer states their data shows safety requirements are met with the first 2 doses for all ages and that there is also efficacy but only in the younger group.

I'm in Canada as well and Pfizer was approved for 21 days apart for ages 5-11 in Canada, but it was only a recommendation that you wait 8 weeks between doses. I got my kids (ages 8 and 11) vaccinated exactly 21 days apart and they just asked if I understood that it was recommended to wait 8 weeks in between, I said yes and explained why we were doing it 21 days apart, and they said no problem and gave them the shot.

Thanks so much for this information! Much appreciated.

Thank you. I didn’t know this was even possible.

Many of my friends actually pushed the second shot up for their kids as well once omicron hit, they wanted to get their kids vaxxed as quickly as possible! Our school had a big outbreak for the 2 weeks before Christmas break and over half of the classes were out, so I think parents were just over having their kids quarantined!

Only in a couple of provinces. This is NOT offered in BC and I had to wait 8 weeks to get my 11yr old her second shot (she just got it last Saturday, her first one was Dec 3).

There’s a lot of speculation here, so I am now closing this thread.
