Ok...I'm trying to figure out the fasination with POTC the movie. I've seen the first one once about 2 weeks ago and I'm not exactly eager to see it again and I don't ever intend on seeing the second or third.

I also don't understand (and actually really hate) how everyone is gaga about Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom and how everyone likes them and has little crushes on them. You don't know them and probably never will so stop basing things on how people look. (Runs from the pack of angry girls.)

Just to make this Disney related and not a rediculous post that has nothing to do with the site, I cannot stand how they changed the ride to resemble the movie. People, the movie was based on the ride, not vise versa. Eisner, you let me down this time. (Bends down to duck from the flames)

Ok, I'm done. Feel free to question, doubt, yell, argue, and hopefully share your opinion since that was the motive behind posting to begin with.

Its a good movie. Thats the obsession with it. and anyone who thinks the ride was made about it really should go to wdw once in awhile. That is one of the last rides that WD himself worked on. It was a book series first. Now its a movie series.

No one is gonna force you to watch them, and the movies aren't about johnny and orlando or kiera. The movie is about pirates. Its a supernatural pirate movie.

Now I love the whole pirate atmosphere, so I went to see the first movie and I fell in love with the story line. I've seen the first probably ten times and I've seen the second five.

Johnny depp is one of the few real artists left in hollywood. And his name is box office suicide. It took a lot of fighting on his part to be able to do sparrow as he wanted. and I am a fan of him for that. he fights to act how he wants to and not be a puppet to a director.

Orlando is one of my favorite actors. I love how he acts. I've seen all but one or two of his movies and I will watch the rest of them. I am a fan of him for his acting ablitities and his character. He is a great person if you ever took the time to read about him. He is an animal lover and activily involved in non profit organizations. And if you've got a cause and you can get him to know about it, he'll donate money to it.

But like I said, the movie isn't about these men, its about pirates and it was inspired by one of walts best rides, which was inspired by a book.

Well said Sparks! You have the right to not like the movie, what's good for some is bad for others. We understand this and don't blame you for it. So don't flame us for liking something and thinking the leading men are attractive, It's our opinion and we have a right to one just as much as you. I've said my peace.

One of my friends loves Disney as much as I do and has no desire to see POTC... I don't think there's anything wrong with that :)

I think part of the reason it is so popular is that it is just a story.. no "parallels" to the real world.. like Lord of the Rings parallels the wars and such.. Pirates of the Caribbean is a fantasy story that can be understood on many different levels by many different age groups and types of people... and it's not one of the new "Just get something out there and see if they like it" type movies.. the Pirates ride has been around and loved for a long time

It also doesn't peg you as any type of person.. not that any movie really does - but generally there is the chick flick watchers, sci-fi watchers, action film watchers, etc... that people might pin with a certain movie(not that it's right, but it happens)

As far as the actors.. I'll be the first to say that I think Orlando and Johnny are cute... but I'm also going to tell you that I think they are both incredibly talented, diverse, and in depth actors.. even though Orlando always plays the wimp ;) To me it isn't about them, and it shouldn't be about them - but some people think it is

Just different cups of tea :)

Well, first of all most of us don't judge on looks. He is just halarious in the movie, well to me. (Johnny Depp) The movie was awsome and alot of people like it. Just because you think one way doesn't mean the whole world should hate the movie, alot of people have their own opinions.

I also like how they based the movie on the ride. Makes us fans eager to see. Plus, since it was a hit disney movie, of course they are going to provide some of the people from that movie in the ride.

I liked the movie, very much. I do not like Jack Sparrow for his looks, I liked how he is in the movie. Comedy, a bit of Romance, and action packed into one movie, definatly a must see, for me. :goodvibes

You do know that Eisner doesn't work at Disney anymore right? He stepped down almost a year ago.

Two words. Thank, god.

As for my two cents, I like the movie. As other people have said, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. As for the ride, it's a classic, and it will remain a classic, even with the changes. Honestly the only thing that's drastically different is the last room. :confused3

Also, I would like to say, I really like Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. I think they do a great job in the movies. I like their acting, not them as a person, for the same reason you said, I don't know them. But from the way you were making it sound, it sounded like I can't say I like Russell Crowe, although I loved Gladiator, and that I can't say I like Tom Hanks, although I liked Forrest Gump and Apollo 13 and all his other movies.:confused3

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favorite movies ever. I think it has an interesting storyline, talented actors and talented crew. Plus, I love looking for the little things that were snuck in as tributes to the ride.

A lot of my friends love the movie as much as I do. Some of them don't. They, as well as you and everyone else are entitled to their own opinion. I may disagree with you, but so be it.

As for everyone loving Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp...Well, that's what happens when you have a really popular movie or TV show- A huge group of girls fall in love with the male lead.

About the ride..I agree, I don't like that they changed it to fit the ride. But they did. As much as I love Disney, they're a company. They're out to make money. And as long as they don't ruin the ride, and from what I've heard, they haven't, I don't really mind.

Just to clear the air here, I realize that people do appreciate what they do and their abilities, it was more directed at those who didn't see it that way and see them merely as sex icons, and whether any of us like the movie or not, we all know that there are people like that out there. I do acknowledge that that is not why every one likes him. I appologize for wording it to make it sound like that is why everyone likes them and their movies, and I'm fully aware of what they do.

Yeah, I realized that after I had entered it and didn't take it out. I figured he may have had some previous say in it before he left in September, but my facts, or more of assumptions, may be off here. Feel free to correct me.

I give YOU 100 props for not only starting this thread...because I think you made excellent points in a very gentle/humorous way, stating your opinion, going against the grain, and asking questions that are open to disussion...but ALSO being willing to admit when you are wrong, apologizing for possibly offending anyone, but still standing up for your beliefs...

APPLAUSE!

Thank you Princess Ash, I appreciate your support in my quest to find answers which I'm sure I won't get without bias. Your kind sentements were surprising as I was throughly expecting another challenge or opposing opinion (which are fine). There goes my debate...darn. No, I'm kidding, but thanks!

Your welcome!

And also, I am not a HUGE POTC fan, but I did like the first movie.

And I'm kinda................chicken to see the second. There I said it...I hate gore and weird things and I know the movie is full of them so...there...
