Postponement questions

We may have to postpone our upcoming vacation - supposed to leave the 29th. My stepson was in a car accident out of town and won't know til Wed if we'll need to postpone our trip.
He wasn't coming with us on our trip - more of a Hawaii person - but we have to wait to see what his condition is before we decide.

We are new to DVC and had a couple questions - haven't been able to get through to member services this morning.

If we have to postpone our trip will we lose all of our points allocated for this trip? Or, will it go into "holding"

How long do I have to use points that are in "holding"? I'm not sure I understand this.

If we reschedule it will probably be June when we go - around the 15th - what do you think availability for a 2BR at BCV will be?

As long as you cancel prior to the day of arrival, the points will go into the holding account. They must be used before the end of your Use Year or lose them. They cannot be banked.

With the holding account, you can only make reservations for a stay within 60 days- so you could schecule a trip up to June 21 right now using holding account points.

I'm really sorry about your stepson's accident. Sure hope things turn out OK.

If you cancel the reservation 1-30 days ahead of your arrival, the points will go into the Holding Account.

If you cancel on the day of arrival, the points will be forfeited.

Points in the Holding Account expire at the end of your use year. They cannot be banked or borrowed.

Holding Account points can be used to make a reservation at any DVC resort (subject to availability), but you can only make the reservation 60 days or less ahead of the arrival date.

Holding Account points can also be used to make a reservation for the non-DVC options. You must make the reservation 60 days or less prior to your arrival AND you must make the reservation more than 60 days before the end of your use year.
