Wow! Sure am glad that I ate breakfast before coming in here today. Although my bagel with cream cheese just doesn't compare.

Kona Cafe, Polynesian Resort - dinner -

Char Crusted Medallions of Filet Mignon - mashed yukon gold potatoes, asparagus and a 5-spice mushroom demi glace $24.99

Kilauea Torte $5.99

These look so good!! Were they? What is your favorite item at Kona? We are trying it for the first time in Jan. Thanks!!

Kona is my favorite restaurant and we always go there for lunch. This was the first time we ate there for dinner.

The food there IMO is on par tastewise with Le Cellier and Chefs de France. They have excellent chefs. DH, FIL and MIL got the filet mignon and they thought it was excellent. MIL said the asparagus was still crunchy and the mashed potatoes nice and creamy but still had some skins on it.

The Kilauea Torte is a chocolate cake with warm chocolate ganache in the center of it. FIL had this and he said it was the best cake he'd ever had. He would scoop up the ganache and drizzle it over the ice cream like hot fudge. It's not heavy at all because the inside is hollow.

Yum!! The torte sounds really good. Can't wait to try it!! Thanks!

BrierRose - DH saw your picture of the chocolate marshmallows from Goofy's and has decided that he will have to get some of them when we go in Dec. I'm really surprised because he's not a chocolate person.

Thanks again for sharing.

oogieboogie,

Love your pictures. Thanks for posting them.

Could you please tell me about the crab cakes at the Kona Cafe and the oak-fired beef filet and veal tournedos at the Cali Grill?

Kathy

My MIL had the crab cakes at Kona and she really liked it. She said it wasn't too spicy and not mushy at all. MIL is very finicky about her food because she has lupus and a bunch of other ailments, so for her to say this was really good says a lot. The greens had a ginger/sweet & sour dressing to it.

At Cali Grill, DH had the beef filet. He doesn't eat cheese so he asked to sub the potato gratin and asparagus for the corn relish which he really liked. The beef filet was very tender, not much seasoning (which is good) and not fatty at all.

I had the veal and the fig sauce was sweet, nice complement to the veal. The veal itself was tender, not chewy at all and you really didn't need a knife to cut it. The gnocchi was a little too mushy for me and didn't have much flavor to them, which is OK I suppose if you're dipping it in the sauce.

There's supposed to be between the graham crackers and the marshmallows, but DH is allergic to chocolate so he got it without.

Sorry, must have totally missed the part where you said it.

Thanks for the photos of dinner offerings at Crystal Palace Oogie! We have enjoyed breakfast at CP and now I think we need to try it for dinner :cool1:

Ohh man, oogieboogie! I really feel bad for your DH! Doesn't eat cheese and allergic to chocolate :earseek: I don't think I could survive without those two, although I know I'd be skinnier

Don't feel bad for him... feel bad for me cause I have to eat with him! :rotfl:

Can you feel the pain when we go out to eat and we're trying to share an appetizer? "Waiter, we'd like to get the nachos, no cheese, no sour cream, please" Jeez... might as well make it no tortilla chips too! Or... "Waiter, we'll get the potato skins, no cheese" then they look at us like we have 2 heads and 3 eyes! :rotfl2:
