Nothing ever goes perfectly... what happened at your house this Christmas??

First of all, my son starts throwing up Christmas Eve morning. Lovely. But by Christmas Day he was good to go!:thumbsup2

Christmas morning my Mother commented on how lovely my Santa Collection is. Says I ought to call the paper next year to take some pictures etc. My dh made me a beautiful mantle shelf to display some of the Santas. My favorite was right in the middle of this shelf. It is wood on the bottom half and the top of Santa is porcelain. It's very unique looking. I got a new Santa Christmas morning and placed it on the shelf. Last week I took my "Old Saint Mick" Mickey Santa down off the shelf as I felt I couldn't see it well enough.

We are almost done with presents and my dd (17) picks one up saying "Who is this for?" and she hits the shelf.... for one brief moment I see ALL the Santas sliding off the shelf to the floor and then there's a horrible CRASH! My 9 year old son jumps into my lap and starts sobbing... I started crying... and my daughter started crying. Many of them are salvagable, with a little super glue, but my favorite is in a million pieces (you know how porcelain breaks).

I told my dd nothing breakable lasts forever... that's the nature of being breakable. But I think I had a premonition last week when I took my Mickey off the shelf.

What a holiday...

My father in law was taken to the ER on Friday night with a very bad headache. They thought it was originally a sinus infection and for him to want to go to the hospital we knew it was really bad. They found blood on his brain and he was transported to a city trauma center. We met with the neurosurgeon on the 23rd & 24th. It wasn't an aneursym so they were hoping the blood would recede on it's own. He took a turn for the worse yesterday and had to have surgery to relieve the pressure and drain the blood. They actually had to drill a hole in both sides because both sides were full of blood.

Oh yeah... and there was the violent murder right up the street on the 22nd :sad2:

Well, let's see.....there was the oil that bubbled over in the oven and filled the kitchen with smoke; there was the burnt caramel corn because someone turned the oven up too high and left it in there; there was a potty that one of the little ones pee'd all over, then just shut the door and left it for the next person to find (and clean!). Oh yeah, then there was the lime mousse pie that my Mom was carrying up from the garage. She dropped it, and it landed flat on its bottom. Pie filling exploded upwards from the floor, and got EVERYWHERE and on EVERYTHING in the vicinity. All my husband's tools, the lawn equipment.....what a mess! It was such a shocking mess that all we could do was laugh....we were laughing so hard, tears were rolling down our faces!! It took us forever to clean that up!!!! I'm sooo glad Christmas is over :rotfl:

The cat we were cat sitting had a protien spill on Xmas morning on our entry way rug.

Nothing real dramatic here, but my dishwasher quit working just in time for Christmas dinner for 12 people. And it's only 2 years old.

Wow. You all win. :)

The most exciting thing to happen to me was that the rolls I'd bought Saturday at Kroger were all covered with mold on the bottom. We decided to skip the rolls with Christmas dinner this year. :rotfl:

It was just dd, dh, and I at our house for Christmas this year. Very mellow, relaxing, and nice.

I was thinking they win too! We broke some ornaments and my 11yo got sick late Christmas night. Nothing out of the ordinary.

My uncles wife got a little drunk and had to be taken home. She's a little loopy anyway so I didn't realize she was drunk. That was on Saturday night. Then on Christmas Eve my Grandpa drank too much and had to be cut off. He was stumbling a lot. Then on Christmas my Uncles loopy wife asked my Mom for a Xanax. Mom didn't have any and even if she had she would not have given it to her.

My DH said "you know you complain about MY family sitting around watching football but your family is doing that too". I said "yes but at least my family adds alcohol to the mix for a little drama :lmao: ".

Does having to take your grandmother to the hospital and spending 7 hours in the emergency room on Christmas Eve, then the entire Christmas day visiting while she gets a blood transfusion count as a "mishap?"

Nothing beats my grandfather dying on Christmas Eve back in 1998, though.

Forgot to bring a whole box of gifts upstairs. When we were all finished unwraping, I knew there were things missing. I foraged around in the basement and found them. Unfortunately, they were not all just from DH and I, some were from the big guy - he hid them down there to trick us!

My DMIL has frontal-temporal dementia. She stayed up all night on Christmas Eve, and again Christmas Day night (the 24th and 25th). Her sleep cycles are WAY off and she wanders at night...snoozes all day. Christmas night she became very disoriented and started hearng voices, seeing things, etc. By 10pm she had barricaded the doors because the burglars were coming; by midnight she was wandering trying to find her mother, which was apparently my DD9. At 2 am she kept opening and closing the outside doors trying to catch the burglars. By 3AM our DD9 (sleeping peacefully on the couch) was her own mother, then at 4AM DD became a hostess for the hotel we were at in Canada (no, didn't follow that one myself). My other three kids were asleep in their rooms, but DMIL was convinced there were women in the basement (no, my oldest DD was down there in her room, but she WAS alone, I checked). My 6 AM my DH was now HER husband, and by 7 am we were apparently still in Toronto and she was very upset at the poor beds provided by the hostess and the poor service from the maids (my other kids). At 8 AM my DH took her to ER (on recommendation of her doctor). At 7 PM she was released...diagnosis: she has dementia with delusions and hallucinations but she WON'T take the antipsychotic medications because the evil doctors are trying to poison her so they can take over her money and fund the democrats! Her coumadin and statin drugs were also messed up...but not enough to warrant admission.

....bottom line: no one slept, but apparently we travelled! No burglars....just us. We returned her to her retirement apartment (she REALLY needs more supervision). The joys of hallucinations!

My mother has a new puppy for Christmas, but she hasn't learned how to stop herself from begging yet. She doesn't even really beg, more like jumping up into your lap and tries to take whatever it is that you are eating. So we put her in her little makeshift playpen that's fully enclosed, and we got a full acapella musical while we ate from the puppy. Was cute for the first 2 minutes or so, but after about a half hour, it got a little tiring. I still love her though.

Well I thought I gave my FIL the one gift he couldn't complain about. We gave him a family pic(which we haven't done in a few years) and he complained. Asked us do you know how many pics I have around here? I asked him how many are of us? :confused3  Next year I'm donating to the church in his name. Were taking bets to see if he complains about that.:teeth:

My grandmother has been getting "looney" as the years go on, but it's been especially bad lately. We exchanged gifts with my aunts and uncles and cousins and my DH and I only got one thing each while everyone else was opening three or four things from my grandma. I'm not upset at all, you just have to laugh. DH got the nicest little snowman pillow (for a guy?!) and I got a lovely angel. I really liked the cookbook, wallet, and snowman that my cousin got--in fact I think the wallet really was supposed to be for me! We think she shopped right, but then when she wrapped it, she got confused and put the wrong names on things. Oh well, it's the thought that counts, right!

Oh, and DS put some of his brand new farm animals and a little tractor in DDs new Easy Bake Oven. As you probably guessed, we realized that after it was too late! We only know it was a tractor because the goo that came out of the oven was John Deere green, and the other piece resembled a Holstein cow!

We'll see if this "mishap" turns out to be a big one or a small one. On Christmas Day, DD7 started feeling achy and sick. He was complaining of a sore throat and runny/stuffy nose. Well, today the situation has progressed to the point that I'm fairly sure he has the mumps! And to top off my night, now my DD5 says she's starting to feel sick!

I'm heading to the pediatrician as soon as I can get there tomorrow. Someone please say a prayer that it's NOT mumps!

I have been having some health problems for the last couple of weeks or so, and on Christmas Eve I was not feeling well, and was extremely fatigued all day. I went and laid down at around 7 pm to try to get some energy back, but by 10 pm I was so weak I could hardly walk and was feeling very sick. My DH insisted I go to the ER, and we had no one to watch our son so we had to wake him up and take him with us. He was upset because he was afraid Santa wouldn't come because he wasn't sleeping, and besides feeling physically terrible, I felt very depressed because I felt like I was ruining Christmas for my family. :guilty:

It ended up I was having some complications from the problems I had earlier in the week which were taken care of fairly quickly in the ER, and the ER staff did a great job in keeping the Christmas spirit alive for my son, so it all ended up OK even though DH had to put a bike together at 2 am! However, I would love to be able to go back in time and have everything go as we had planned.
