I'm considering booking a massage for the day following the WDW full marathon. I have not used any of the spas at WDW before. Have any runners here booked a massage for the day after the marathon at Disney before? Do you have a preferred spa and or treatment?

I'm considering between
- Senses at Grand Floridian
- Mandala Spa WDW Dolphin
- Spa at Waldorf Astoria

Thinking of an 80 min massage. Probably Swedish massage, as I'm afraid a deep tissue massage might be a bit tough on me following all that running.

A post race massage is a great treat. You are focussing in on having a massage after the muscles have had time to relax and cool. The prime time for a massage is late afternoon, followed by the following day.

Traveling to a race and getting one away from home is purely the luck of the draw. Since you do not have a massuese here, you may get one that is great or one who is still learning or only knows how to give a resort foo foo style (regardless of the title). I would look at a deep tissue and talk with the massuese about focussing on legs and establish that you may need them to pull back once they get started. A good deep tissue/stretching massage would do wonders.

I got a massage about 6 days after the marathon and it hurt so bad, I guess I waited too long to get it!

Pain is weakness leaving your body....

Actaully, post race activities should still include a walk and stretching every day post race as well as foam rolling. Even with this, a good massage will help break up those nasty little tight spots.

I was at TrackShack (EMMI) at lunch and we were talking about a couple things. They were asking my opinion on an item to bring to the expo... I looked over and pointed at their short travel rollers on the table and said that they should also include those at the TS table for every travelling expo.

This past January I had a massage at the Mandaran Spa in the Dolphin. It was a Sweedish, it was nice. More money than other hotels though.
I did it in between races though....I did my massage in the afternoon after the half , the day before the full. It worked for me. I am doing the same thing in '14 as I am doing the Dopey.

I will advice to book ahead of time as I did this time around. Last year it was simply by luck of a last minuet cancelation that I got an appointment during marathon weekend. They are very busy then.
