Post a Picture of Your Camping Setup at Other Campgrounds!!

Those look awesome! Were the water parks cold? We are a bit spoiled about having warm water but a trip to VA has to be in our future sometime in the next couple of years :goodvibes

Yes, but if you go later in the summer you'll be fine. We go to a local water park every year the last weekend in July and it's great. VA is wonderful, lots of land to cover - mountains are beautiful and to the east there is the ocean and tons of historic sites.

Killens Pond State Park, Felton, DE
Site C-1 (water/electric)
4/3-5/2008

packed sand sites, decent sized level sites, site c-1 backs to bath house (nice location), nice playground, huge field for playing sports or flying kites

I would like to go back here during the summer as there is a waterpark on the other end of the state park.

Elk Neck State Park, North East, MD
Site 30 (full hookup - $35/night)
9/26-28/08

some sites are at the top or bottom of hills - we loved our site.

Turkey Point Light House about a 10 minute drive from campground and then another 1 mile walk from that parking lot.

Gettysburg Campground, Gettysburg, PA
Sites 165 & 198 (we had requested a pull thru but they had to move us so they gave us 2 back to back sites – I don’t think we would have fit very well in either of these sites but buy combining them I was very happy with our location)
7/3-6/2008

nice family run campground near Gettysburg Battlefield, Boyd’s Bear Factory, and AllStar Sports Complex

Westmoreland State Park, Montross, VA
Site A-7 (water/electric)
6/13-15/08

larger pull thru sites in the A section

Site B-22 (water/electric)
11/9/07

looking for shark’s teeth & fossils

love the autumn colors

Site A-6 (water/electric)
6/16/07
our little pop up looks lost on this huge site

this trip we visited the fishing area where the boys took out a paddle boat, we walked the cliffs trail to look for fossils along the beach, playground, and visited the pool

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Resort Park, Hagerstown/Williamsport, MD
Site 201 (full hook up big rig site)
5/16-18/2008

we now only visit on amenity free weekends – as the rates here are quite expensive once you add on the cost of the activities.

Site 200 yard

American Heritage RV Park – Williamsburg, VA
Site 7 (full hookup)
4/4-6/2008

close proximity to Busch Gardens, Water Country, and historic sites
nice level paved pad

camped with friends
site 6

site 2

site 17

Cunningham Falls State Park - Thurmont, MD
Site 20 (electric hookup)
9/28-30/2007

site 20 had great location to water spigot and rest rooms

path to bathroom/house

friends used our tent for their first time trying out camping and were in site 21 – they bought a trailer the next spring so I assume they liked it

looking at site 21 from the restroom/bath house

we walked the trail from the campground to the falls – I don’t advise this with small children – we didn’t know.

The waterfall was just a trickle but the kids had fun climbing to the top with the dads.

Patapsco Valley State Park – Ellicot City, MD
Site 400 (electric)
9/7-9/2007

our first visit for DS’s 4-H shooting sports match in the area. We liked this site but once we arrived we discovered it would be easier to back into site 401 so we switched for future visits.

We walked (hiked) the trail to the bottom of the mountain at the campground area of the state park.

There was a Scales and Tails program one night

Lake Fairfax – Reston, VA
Site 60 (electric)
8/25/07

Visited here for a back to school surprise for DS & his friend. Enjoyed our site but loved the waterpark in the front of the park where the campground is located.

Four Mile Creek State Park, Youngstown (Niagara Falls), NY
Site 280 (electric)
8/10-12/2007

Site was near restroom/bathhouse and had large open field behind it – tons of space between sites in loop as well.

I took this photo from out of my bed in the back of our camper

While here we visited Niagara Falls – we had free parking down at the falls on the American side b/c we stayed at the state park – about a 15 minute drive.

Maid of the Mist Boat Ride

in 2007 you only needed a copy of your birth certificate and a quarter to walk across this bridge to Canada – you had to pay the quarter to get back to the US – lol

we also visited Lockport Cave on the Erie Canal – about a 25 minute drive from the campground.

shaft entrance from inside the cave

Shaft entrance from outside the cave

boat ride inside the cave

Letchworth State Park – Castile, NY
Site 303 (electric)
8/7-10/2010

sites were large – state park has a pool about a 5 minute drive from the campground. Arcade at campground area.

Grand Canyon of NY – tons of hiking trails, 3 main waterfalls, beautiful gorges, and history museum

Watkins Glen State Park – Watkins Glen Village, NY
Site 83 (electric)
8/5-7/2007

loved this site – backs to the restroom/bathhouse – next to water spigot - some sites are difficult to back into for larger units b/c of tree placement

pool was wonderful

best playground we’ve ever seen

beautiful hiking trail – gorges & waterfalls

lots of areas to walk under the falls

we also visited the Senaca Lake Harbor Station Area

we had lunch at a restaurant right next to railroad tracks – we didn’t realize it was active

Letchworth is an awesome park. We camped there when I was a kid like 35 years ago. I tore almost all the ligaments in my left ankle jumping a drainage ditch in the campground and spent 6 months on crutches. Ahhhhh, the memories.

Uchee Creek Campground, Ft. Benning, GA

Lovely military/retiree/government employee campground - level, great facilities, and more dang deer than you can imagine..... we heard snorting during the night, looked at the rear-view camera, and there were about 30 of them bedded down behind our motorhome....lol.

I love that campground. Did you do the chuckwagon dinner?

Do you mean the chuckwagon breakfast...yes, we did. We also enjoyed a dinner at the Ponderosa restaurant (located near the campground office). I loved the scenery and the fresh mountain air. Of course the proximity of the campground to drive to Mount Rushmore, or the option to take the shuttle bus was an added benefit. The only thing that the campground needed was cable TV as we could barely receive TV signals to check the weather forecast.

Nope, I meant the chuckwagon dinner ride. http://www.ridesouthdakota.com/rides.htm#ride. We didn't do the cowboy breakfast ride. Just the pancake tent. We had our anniversary dinner at the Ponderosa. That was a nice restaraunt too. I know what you mean about the satellite. We specifically asked for a site where we could get a signal, so we were down in the main part of the campground near the office. I could see where it would be difficult in other parts of the campground.

Hey, I just noticed the timestamps on your pictures. That was two weeks before were there. Small world!
