Possible trip to DL

I have an opportunity to have a first time visit to DL July 11 - 14. My son has a new job and will be flying to LA and staying in a hotel not far from DL for work. He said I was more than welcome to stay with him.

I can't make any reservations or plans for another couple of weeks due to circumstances beyond my control. Do you think I will have a chance of getting a park reservation at that point? I keep up with all the changes to visiting WDW and understand that while DL and WDW are not alike, they are similar.

You should be fine to book a reservation if you're able to do it at least two weeks out. Probably would be best to get a park hopper ticket to increase your chances. Check out the Reservation page here and you can see what's currently available. You might be limited in your starting park if you wait too long but should otherwise be able to book something.

I would recommend buying tickets and making park reservations now. If you end up not going, you can cancel the reservations and hold onto them for another time. Tickets do not have ownership until they are used for the first time, so if you never actually use them, Disney will allow you to reassign them to someone else (your son, perhaps).

Another question, this trip would be solo as my DS would be at work. I could catch a Uber/Lyft from the hotel but what about going from DL to our hotel? It's not close enough to walk and we do not plan to rent a car.

There’s a DL rideshare pickup area for Uber/Lyft outside the Harbor gate on Harbor.

Or you can walk to one of the hotels (DLH or GC) and take a taxi or Uber/Lyft from there as well.
