Possible to postpone a booked DVC trip to 2021?

In January 2020, I booked 11 nights for late September in a 2BR at my home resort of Bay Lake Tower using banked points from 2019, current ones from 2020 and also borrowed some from 2021. At the 7 months mark, I then moved my reservation to a Treehouse. Right now, we are not sure yet if we will be able to travel, as the US doesn't allow visitors from Schengen countries. Of course we still hope that things will work out and we can visit but I think that I also should start to prepare a backup plan.

Our preferred alternative would be to do the same trip, just a couple of months later, preferably at a time, when the parks aren't too busy either and with the weather not too cool or too hot, which probably would bring us to a timeframe of mid-March to mid-May, avoiding Easter of course.

I've been pretty busy at work, so I might have missed some of DVC's possible rule changes. Based on the current rules, what is the latest we can cancel or move our currently booked trip? Would we lose the banked 2019 points or is DVC offering a grace period in which to still use the points?

Which period in the first half of 2021 would you recommend for a similiar guest & climate experience as in late Sept. / early October?

Thanks for your assistance!

What is your UY? That will make a difference on when points would expire.

As of today, Disney is waiving holding, which means they are allowing trips to be canceled within 31 days from check in.

They are also returning borrowed points. The key is we don’t know how much longer this will last and they can stop at any time.

IMO, I think They will continue these temporary policies for at least the summer, especially with how things are in FL right now.

Do you think DVC would be more sympathetic to overseas owners? DVC is open and US owners are able to use their points however due to travel restrictions overseas owners are still unable to use their points, plus those of us who have late 2020 bookings (November) the uncertainty means we have a greater chance of losing 2019 banked points used for a current booking.

If we have a trip in 26 days what happens to points from use year Aug 2019? I want to cancel but it’s my aunts DVC. She’s almost 80 so her going is insane IMO.

Points for an Aug 2019 UY are good from Aug 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020. If the points weren't banked (and they probably weren't if you are using them in the 2019 UY, they will expire at the end of the month. The points will be lost if you don't go.

Anyone able to get scifi at all? That's the only one I haven't seen any availability on...

What about this? Thx

Probably not. Using different standards like that can be a very slippery legal slope. The property is (mostly) in Florida and so that is creating the standard they use.

They may need to treat the owners of AUL and VGC differently, but that is based on location of property and not owner address.

The rental market is still alive and well. If you have expiring points rent them out ASAP.

That's just about Holding, meaning if you cancel less that 30 days out, you can still use those point to book a stay more than 60 days out. Nothing to do with the end of the UY during a time when the resorts are open.

Thanks! UY is February.

"Points will be returned to the current use year." So, if I would cancel, would they change my banked 2019 points used for the reservstion into 2020 points?

You are currently in your 2020 UY so all those banked 2019 points remain banked and are returned to 2020 as that is the UY you are in,

The borrowed points will be returned to 2021 UY, providing you cancel while that temporary change is still in effect.

26 days puts us into August...so those 2019 UY points had to already be moved into the 2020 UY to be in that reservation.

That means they will be returned to the August 2020 UY and good until July 31st, 2021.

Now, if any of your nights were in July, then those 2019 points are beyond banking window and will be lost.

If there are 2019 UY points sitting in the account that were never banked or used, then those would also be lost.
