Possible to add set amount of $$ to Magicband?

I was wondering if it's possible to put a limited amount of money on my teenager's Magicbands? It would work like a debit card. I want them to be free from carrying cash but I don't want to give them unlimited spending power! We did this on a cruise (non-Disney) a few years ago and it worked out great!

Does anyone have any experience with this?

The spending limit is set by the resort (depends on resort level) and it is typically done by room, not by person. I have read here and there that someone got the resort to use a different card for a person in the room but those reports seem to be the exception and most report that they were told it couldn't be done.

No, there is no way to "load" money to a magic band. All you can do is charge back to the hotel and then pay it off with cash, credit card or gift card.

Darn! That would have been perfect. Thanks for all the quick replies.

BUT ... an alternative is that they are now (at least sometimes) selling gift cards that are tiny, reloadable, and attached to a springy lanyard that you can put around your wrist.

I saw them at the Flower & Garden, and the ones above are for the Food & Wine. So I'm not positive you'll be able to get them when you're there. It seems like an idea waiting to happen though, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the regular ones available in this format.

We saved our ones that we got at the F&G; we're hoping that we'll be able to keep track of them to take and use this way with our kids when we are back later this year in August if they are not a regular thing by then.

Last year at check in at FW a mom was checking in with one of her sons (the oldest if I had to guess, I believe he said he was 14). When asked if she wanted charging capabilities on all the MB's she said no. The boy asked if he could have it on his as he was now 14, had an allowance, was given some alone time in the parks etc. Made a good case and wasn't really whining about it. The CM said they could limit the amount on each MB. I think the mom said make it $10 a day. Don't know if it worked but just reporting what I saw.

If it doesn't work maybe you could also give them a Disney GC in a set amount each day you will be there? Say a $10 GC each day? Or a $100 card up front and when it's gone it's gone?

A buddy of mine was in Europe and went to a soccer match over there for one of the big Dutch clubs. As you enter they have booths that hand out "Stadium Card's" you give them a credit/debit card and they load however much you want on it, might be able to give them cash too. You use that Stadium Card to buy food, drink, or souvenirs. This was they are not dealing with cash and change at a register. At the end of the match if you have money left on it you get a refund back on your credit/debit card. Season ticket holders and those who go to multiple matches can keep the card loaded w money for future use. If you need to add more money during the match you can. He said it speeds everything up and the lines move very quick. I am surprised Disney has not gone to something like this for everybody at the parks.

Or could you just get a pre paid via/mastercard and use that as the linked CC on their MB? Saves carrying a card around that would get lost easier than a MB

I'll call DVC Member services and see what they suggest. Thanks for all the suggestions. Maybe linking a pre-paid Visa will work. Trying to avoid them having to carry around any extra cards. The boys don't have good pockets in their basketball type shorts and the girls don't want to carry any purses or bags (Who does?)
