Ok...so i've had this swimmers ear now almost all week. It's feeling better, however i'm taking Floxin drops and the amount of fluid coming out seems to be increasing - and it's yellow. Is that a good sign or a bad sign - drainage?

I really should call the Dr as I don't want to mess around with my ears, however I know probably a few people here have gone through this as well and would know if it's a good sign that the drainage is increasing.

Thanks.

Getting that junk out is a good thing. It's probably what the drops are intended to do. But you could always talk to the nurse or doctor to find out for sure.

I did go through it..when I was on swim team years ago. I waited all summer because they tell you not to get your ears wet and I wanted to win.

I ended up with 4 ear infections in one ear. Do yourself a favor and call the doctor.

My son is also on Floxin right now for swimmer's ear. He is on day 8 of the medicine and has had no drainage. That's not to say that drainage is a bad thing--could just be how you are reacting to this.

My son has had two instances in his life when he has drained from his ear. One time he had a regular infection and the eardrum burst, causing the infected fluid behind the eardrum to drain out (this does not happen in swimmer's ear and surely you would know if your eardrum burst). The second time was when he had some built up particles in his ear that had adhered to the side of the ear canal and caused an infected scab in the ear. During that time there was sporadic, horrible mucousy drainage. We went to the ENT and had his ear flushed and then he took antibiotic drops for 10 days. But there was no drainage while on the drops.

I would phone the doctor this morning and explain what is going on. He will know if the drainage is normal with the Floxin.
