Just been reading Orlando Sentinels Website. Voters in Florida are considering abolishing their property tax in exchange for increased sales tax on everything they(and us) buy. It would mean a 2.5% increase from 6% to 8.5% which will make it the highest statewide sales tax in US. It would save the average homeowner $2,283

Hi,
Wonder if DVC would be classed as my "primary home" as I don't own any other property in the USA. If it goes ahead it will make tipping in restaurants easy to work out, just double the tax.

Mick.

:cool2:

So if they drop property tax, does that mean anyone with timeshare will find their yearly dues going down????? Sorry didn't postquick enough , I see Mickg had this covered.

I would expect some clause in there for out of state owners to still contribute but time will tell. It might all come to nothing yet.

I still think we could have something in this country better than we have but cant see any party doing much about it. Why all the indirect taxes and red tape? I think they could do away with most of the taxes and have a sales tax/VAT to cover it.

its for primary homes,so if you have a holiday villa you will still have to pay for it(the welsh should have thought of this)So allas dvc will not be elegable:sad1:

No, surely thats a European wide tax (with national governments having a small amount of difference they can put to it), not a state (County) sales tax to replace Property (Council) tax?

I read somewhere once that all the tax they pay in the US is just to keep the tax office running, nothing useful actually happens with the cash!

its still a sales tax,I was pointing out that we do have one as in the states. The rate varies from each EU member
