We are planning a trip for August 2-9. We are hoping for free dining. Last year it started the day the Value season started. Value season starts on the 5h. So, I'm wondering how it would work for us (if it is offered). Would we have to pay for the dining plan August 2-4, or would they give it to us free for the whole time?

The free DDP has already been offered to 2 targeted groups, with 2 different start dates--August 5 and August 12. If they offer it to the general public, who knows?

I don't believe you would be able to do what you suggested. Free dining would only be offered for a package starting on or after whatever the start date is (for argument's sake, let's say August 5). The only way for you to get free dining would be to have 2 separate reservations--one starting on August 2 (your actual arrival day) and one starting on August 5. Since you'd have to have a package to qualify for free dining, you'd have to buy one day myw base tickets for everyone in your party, which you couldn't pick up until August 5. So you'd probably also need separate tickets for August 2-4.

You'd have to run the numbers to see if 4 days of free dining (with the added cost of the extra tickets) is worth it for your family.

I'm sorry I guess I do not understand what you are trying to say. What do you mean by I would have to buy extra tickets? I do not know if this matters are not. But, we are planning to do a package that includes room, 7 or 8 day tickets with park hopping and water parks, and dining (no matter if we get it free or not.) I was just hoping that we might be able to get in on the savings.

Free Dining is for a package stay, booking a room at rack rate and purchasing at least a one day MYW ticket. You would have purchased your tickets with your arrival date of 8/2, no matter how long the tickets are for, if you wanted free dining you would have to book a new reservation which would coincide with the start date of free dining and that new reservation would be with rack rate room prices and at least a one day ticket purchase(per person in your room). It may not be worth it for you to do, you would have to work the numbers.

What are the groups that the free DDP has been offered to?
This is discussed in the FAQ, the first message in this thread:

Note the dates mentioned in the FAQ, for which free dining has already been offered, seem to indicate that your dates are a bit too early to qualify, even if free dining was to be offered to the general public. If "free dining" began during your trip, you would have to break your reservation into two separate reservations, and comply with the package purchase requirements for EACH separately.
