Hello,

We are WDW vets and DVC members, who are considering our first trip to DL next year. Having a son in college and a daughter who will be junior in highschool next year I think we will have to go in the summer (possibly Christmas, but I don't think we can afford that).
I am wondering, are DL hotel discounts usually offered in say Mid June or Mid August? I am not hopeful that we will be able to get VGC at the 7 month window, so I want to have a hotel for backup. Probably the Disneyland Hotel. But I am wondering if we will have a shot at discounts. I see on Mousesavers there are some room only this year starting August 14th.
Any insight and tips would be appreciated!

Thanks!!

The past two years they have had pretty decent discounts during the summer. In 2010 it was 5 nights for 3 or something crazy like that, and this summer it was 25% off. I believe the summer discount included June through the middle of August. Sometime in July I believe, they discontinued that promotion and switched it to visits starting August 14.

Another note - the summer discounts don't come out until late spring - just keep an eye on the website and you can usually figure out when the next ones are coming by the "book by" and "travel by" dates for the current promotion.

This is going to be hard to predict. While of course discounts are common next summer DLR may be less reliant on them. This may make the VGC harder to attain too. Next summer is going to be really big for DLR. DCA will have it's grand reopening and Carsland expansion bringing in more guests. Disney will be metering demand on the parks and hotels carefull as it markets this and that could not be good for discounting.

If the GVC doesn't work out start looking late Spring Break for summer offers.

We are also WDW vets although not DVC members and are also planning a trip west for next summer! I've been reading and reading and taking tones of notes along with favoriting a lot of things. Its a lot to comprehend I feel like. We haven't set a date in stone but are leaning toward mid June. Our youngest son is in 8th grade so we have to factor in when school "will" get out (add a few snow days onto the end of the school calendar) and if he'll be playing football in high school. FUN FUN! I am somewhat surprised about the differences between DL and WDW. It will be fun to experience Disneyland for the first time. I think my hardest decision is staying on property or staying at a good neighbor hotel. If I had tons of extra cash, I'd probably pick GC but beings that this is a big trip for us, I'm not sure we'll go that route! Happy Planning!
