portofino suite upgrade to villa suite

Okay so most everyone knows that platinum members get a free portofino suite at time we make reservation.

How often do you get the villa upgrade when you check in?

For us it has been around 1/3 of the time.

Does anyone do anything to improve your odds of getting the upgrade at check in like send an e-mail, or make a phone call?

I've only had it once and that required us being very creative in our request to the manager.

Once, I got it without ever even asking (it was our first time in the villa suite). I thought they had taken to the wrong room at first.

When we got it last November it was from a request I made because I was taking my sister and I wanted it to be special since I was trying to show appreciation for her taking care of our brother when he was terminally ill with cancer.

It seems like Mother Fletcher gets a villa suite a lot. Maybe he will share his secret.

Sorry, just had to chime in here. I have met Motherfletcher in person, and I can assure you that unless he is into some meticulous cross-dressing, Motherfletcher is indeed, in fact, a "he."

My apologies to motherfletcher. I guess that happens. A poster thought I was a "she" on another thread and last I checked I too am a "he".

A few years ago there was a frequent poster, RyGuy, who was the king of upgrades at all 3 of the on-site hotels. I met him at RPR and we discussed his strategies and for a college kid he was wise beyond his years. He knew all the contacts and gave me names and email addresses. I tried Ray Coleman at RPR with no luck (didn't even return my email). I tried Brian Johnson at PBH and found one of the nicest guys in the hospitality industry. He arranged our first Villa Suite upgrade and from there I'd simply email him after I received my hotel confirmation and ask him to "take care" of us which he did. The sad news is that Brian moved out to Vegas to be Dale McDaniels' (old RPR Mgr.) right hand man. His replacement at PBH is Heather and the front desk didn't have her last name but says it rhymes with salomi. Usually the "new" kid doesn't want to give away the farm but it might be worth a call/email.
